You cant spool a LSD hemisphere, yer the V8 VL's all has 28 spline axles, and you will need an open centre to spool it

05-11-06, 19:32 GMT+10#63 The noise sounds like you may have damaged a bearing when installing, i cant see how you would crack a shim, you must have been hitting it hard?

08-11-06, 16:34 GMT+10#68 ive snapped about 10 shims by just tapping them...best way ive learnt to get them in without a porb is either be very carefull n precise if the diff is still on the car..otherwise just take the whole diff off...simple **** like 5bolts and whala if the diff is not on the car its a whole lot easyer, just 'drop' the whole setup in, (shims(bearing caps)(center)(bearings)(shims) insted of having to fk around n hold the show 2getha underneath the car !
just my ways after wacking a huge amount spools in haha

Mate - get a spool and 3.9 or 4.11 gears.. your VL will rip awesome skids... even with the 3.45:1's it should still have no problem spinning both wheels with the spool in place.

14-01-07, 23:55 GMT+10#76 got a minispool the other day, so today got me mate to come around to give me a hand to put it on, put the car (VN wagon) on stands, took both wheels off, brake calipers, handbrake system and the bearing retaining bolts. Then drained diff fluid, took the back cover off, took the bearing retainers off and left it like so. Followed ur advice and used ur slide hammer idea to remove the axles. Tried and tried and tried to remove one, then the other and again and again, but got no where..... so after about 2hrs off stuffin around, we just put it back together, new gasket, new oil and back to the old single-spinner...
Was just wandering is there ANY other way of removing the axles that u could suggest, or any other ideas because i dont really wanna take it to a mechanic unless i really have to.
Thanks for ANY advice!

15-01-07, 16:18 GMT+10#77 the way i did it (takes seconds)m bolt the disc back on but the wrong way, Get a stock VL jack (Yes.. i did find a good use for them!) and sit it ontop and start unwinding. i sat there for 40 min trying to get one of mine out, Did that and it poped it out in seconds.

17-01-07, 18:05 GMT+10#80 well after getting angry from not being able to get the spool in last time, i though id give it another shot. Drove about 100km to mates house(thought may be warming it up might help) took the rotor off and reversed it, got the jack and strarted winding and then ' POP ' !!! then oil strartin comin out the end the axle. haha wasnt expecting it 2 come off dat easily coz last time we had 2 jacks and it didnt budge. did the same on the other side and ' POP ' again ! Took the back cover off, took the centre out, left hand thread bolts were pretty tight, had to use a bench clamp to hold the diff in place. Took spider gears out, put spool in, put diff back in the car which wasnt too hard tapping the shims using a plastic mallet. then gasket, filled her up with oil, had dinner then took it for a spin on a private burnout pad. I was stoked !!! Like someone told me before i installed it, once you've done this, you'll never go back to a single spinner! The cons of it is that it does vibrate a lil around small round-abouts, hard to park and specially REVERSE park. Pros: better take off(no wheel spin no-more), always predictable wat is going to happen and most off all its 2-wheels spinning at all times!
Thanks for the help guys !
