Without books it's impossible to say.
VL odometers are notoriously inaccurate

28-05-04, 05:57 GMT+10#69 There's a wagon for sale at work now for $500. Haven't seen it but the description seems to justify the price. It's just over 360k. A mate was looking at some about 6 years ago and a dealer tried to sell him a "special" one. "It's got half a million k's on it and still running, must be special". Of course he laughed and walked away. I'm glad I found this thread, I'm looking at a Berlina with 225k on it. Mrs thinks that's too much but I know better how good these motors are. The car has all power options and calais interior plus some other work, only needs rear wheel bearings, price is good too. If the pics back up the description I hope to be in it within 3 weeks.

29-05-04, 06:31 GMT+10#70 Possibly with the Odometer reading 85,000 Ks ,maybe the actual Odometer has been replaced with a new one..
I had to in my VL as it stopped counting at 260K and now it reads 120K so I guess the bottom line is the Seller if they are honest or not?
Good Luck

29-05-04, 11:58 GMT+10#71 the vl odometers are pretty crappy in ways of reliability, this is what im told from a mecho who he himself loves vls, anyway yeh they tend to be out of whack not working at times stuff like that.... but hey i have never seen another motor take it like mine and has done 270k and still idle like a baby.
but alas my new mods will mean ill have to rebuild it and rebore (maybe??)

29-05-04, 14:33 GMT+10#72 my mate got a VL for free It had over 650 000. when we picked it up it would not start. after a few hits around the starter motor and 2 jump starts she started. Then she broke down three times on the way home. 2 days later we pulled the motor out and that is how it sits now.

11-09-04, 22:16 GMT+10#74 My Calais has done 370000 - 2 head gaskets, a heap of crank angle sensors, rebuilt the diff, killed an auto, put in a rebuilt manual at 230000 and its been rebuilt again since, but the motor has nothing major done and still goes well, geting plenty of power and 400-450ks out of a tank no worries.

12-09-04, 02:00 GMT+10#75 I bought my calais start of last year.. with 310,000 odd k's on clock, and it had stopped so could be more....... body was good so i snapped it up... then a few months later i killed it. bottom end bearing went......speed related maybe.... i got told just ppl didnt look after motor.. so my dad didnt care as much lol....... and currently have 323+ on clock with new motor... so now 13,000k's on motor in a year. im goin good! good motors. ill get lots of use! Go the mighty vl's!!!

280300 something, no rebuild, nothing replaced, just the usual break downs and services, still goes good. N/A too, and can feel been put back in the seat.

The other day i decided to press the trip odometer button and now only the trip odometer works, oh well, atleast now i can calculate fuel economy again, btw 200k and still goes like new, arart from tranny, lol, but thats expected

13-09-04, 01:23 GMT+10#79 i ticked over the 1,000,000 milestone about 2 weeks ago
i now have about 500,000 on the clock.
there are only 2 ways this could happen:
1) ive been driving non stop at about 1500km/h for the last 2 weeks
or
2) my odometer is ****ed
i really hope its 2) cos i couldnt afford a speeding fine for 1400km/h over the speed limit
in all seriousness, i had about 300,000km and then the 2nd number on the odo started ticking over every 10km. after it hit 1,000,000 it started ticking over every 1km. ie i added on 10,000km for every 1km i really did
may be a good incentive for me to get a tacho dash thrown in

21-09-04, 02:12 GMT+10#80 I got my engine rebuilt at 350 000, and that's only because I limped it home with a busted radiator hose and cracked the head. She has 385 000 or so now. Rebuilt the 5 speed, replaced this and that, but she's been really good to me. I believe she'd still be going without a rebuilt now if i didn't bust the radiator hose!
