23-08-05, 15:51 GMT+10#63 dreamers add on the cost of labour, and instantly double ur cost of parts
doesnt the turbo need water and oil lines, dont injectors need plugs, dont turbo's need a dumpipe.....
stop pullin urselfs, theres a reason workshops charge 25k for a 'reliable' 10sec package

23-08-05, 16:51 GMT+10#64 workshops also charge that silly amount koz thats including parts, if you supply parts and stuff and u "might" know someone in the performance industry it might cost a bit less.

Its dreamer comments like $4000 gets u an 11 sec vl, that encorouges most of the stupidity on this site.
Im sick and tired of morons on this site bagging 11sec-10sec-9sec cars. I go to calder more than most people do on this site, and apart from all the big boy's most vl's I see DONT even run 12's on slicks.

It's not a quote for a job.... It's a rough guide.
A 25k enine package is for people who rock up to a workshop and say "I want a 10sec car" and for that price the car will run in the 10's nine times out of ten. But for people in the know and also have friends in the know it works out a lot cheaper for them and the car will proberly run in the 10's 5 times out of ten but for half the cost. I choose the later catergory.

there is NO justification for how much some workshops charge for their services, 25k.. fark man that is a ****load of cash! i know someone that has spent that much money on his running gear, and i WONT mention names, but he was guarunteed mid to high 9s and they still cant get a launch out of it. personally, if you have the know how and you have been there done that, then building a motor just as strong as a workshop isnt out of the question.. yes it costs extra money to wire and fit up a harness so what man the workshop charges more than what is costs for a mobile auto elec to come out and make one up, some places ask for too much money, and quite frankly, if you take your car to a workshop for its rep, you WILL pay unreasonable amounts of money to show off their work. man people in the 80s with their torries and falcons were making strong 11 second streetable engines, a 10 second VL turbo engine is far from street.
just my 2c

19-09-05, 15:54 GMT+10#70 your saying 10 second VL's are not streetable?

23-09-05, 10:52 GMT+10#71 engine this and that,u people seriously underestimate with standard bottom ends.
with a stock fresh bottom end,no acl pistons-genuine, de-comp plate and a nice head with the right cam your engine is set.xf throttle body, nice t4,3inch,pump injectors and computer(aftermarket or remapped) also extra injectors or bigger one or the other.with the right tuning and boost 16-20 you got the power...if your running a manual 3.9's will be fine also need a good clutch.or auto with 4k stall and 4:11's.
the right suspension, none of this jacked up arse end lowered front ****.front with 90/10's rear with standard variable rate springs and stock shocks what will this car run with a dcent driver, not some jack arse off the street tryin to be a s*ck c*nt???10's are on the table or very low 11 manual at the slowest

23-09-05, 10:55 GMT+10#72 also bigger turbo, higher revs to spool...low down power i think not.so this car is not as driveable and u'd hope.also add the nice cam to it and u got a pig to 3k.big gears few revs at 100k's.3inch exhaust less back pressure.really nice a quiet to cruise with the misses and kids if your older....hahahaha

ok.. well if you consider your car streetable when:
1) if your auto, youll have a high converter and higher gears.. sloppy pickup and a bit of lag
2) if your manual, you wont be running a heavy duty clutch, but you may thats your descision [real winner], youll be running a puk clutch or something of that type, so have fun at the lights or in peak hour traffic with your 10 second street car
3) youll have a cam that is profiled to the point where it doesnt even run properly unless its in its rev range, so youll be kickin back at the lights with your car wanting to puke because its not in its paces
4) youll be on the fwy kickin back turbo almost ready to spool up because your car is revin stupid revs
5) with fuel prices these days itll be an economy streeter wouldnt it :|
then your a REAL WINNER!
good day.

Or, if u really want 11's, buy a datto 1600 with 200rwkw, you'll get there alot easier.
I hate to break it to you ... but getting 11's out of a 1600 isn't that easy, Sure Mick McGregor etc can do it in their SR's, but IRS has troubles putting that power down to the ground, I had enough issues getting Flat 13 from my Z18ET on a Datto you need to spend so much more on suspension ..... .

I agree with SIKNOS
SLEVH2 ran low 12s with slicks before the new motor and it only had 202rwkw at that stage... soo, yeh a slip would be a bit more convincing :$
and in regards to the 1600 ute comment, 200rwkw in a vl COULD run a high 11 so why downgrade from a VL to THAT :|
ciao for now

29-09-05, 11:05 GMT+10#77 Yes there is definitley a lot more costs involved in running numbers. Infact even doing the 10 second package on the cheap will cost over 10k by the time you add everything up. Is that what you's are arguing about? I couldn't be stuffed reading all the posts. lol

29-09-05, 11:40 GMT+10#78 Guys my statement about 5-6K for an engine is only regarding head work, forgies, all parts balanced, shot peened rod etc etc.
Sure you could probably run a 9 using the na bottom end, however if your going for longevity then a forged motor will run stronger for longer.
I've heard of stories regarding rajab using na bottom ends and running nines, but the bottom ends have only lasted 2-3 runs.

29-09-05, 11:52 GMT+10#79 yeah $700 would most liekly include no mufflers..
just straight mandrel mild steel pipe..
i got mine for $300.. but usually youd be bale to get one for around $500 or less with no mufflers or tips.. mufflers extra and so are the chrome tips..
and sometime your easily bl to find a dump pipe 3inch for under $200 from here so yeah..
can anyone tell me the differences between t04z, t04e, and t04b turbo's?

14-10-05, 10:07 GMT+10#80 If i were to do what flawless said above i.e all the performance parts, is there n e use buyin a vlct. im lookin around for em and i cant find one thats stock as a rock, most have already been worked. If you buy a n/a vltc for some 4 grand (which there are plenty of) and just spend an extra 1000 or so for a turbo kit is there n e point buyin a stock vlct for an odd 7-8 grand????
