And when did he recieve this CSL? as at present I blieve the only one here in australia belongs to BMW Australia and is not for sale. Less than 20 are coming here and they are all owned, you cannot buy a CSL anymore...
Did it have a carbon fibre roof?
I get the impression you think I'm full of **** - think again
Yes it is definitely a CSL, there are three in the country atm i think, definitely two. There is a silver one which is frequently around the unley area, and occasionally i see it over at norwood. The other one is gunmetal, and that's my mates Dad's. There are 23 coming to Australia, they are all sold, and there is about 30 people on a reserve list with deposits paid should they bring more later. If anyone doesn't know the difference they don't have fog lights, and more a lip for a spoiler over the boot (sorta like a senator- only better)
Hey south2, did you know that roof saves six kilos? That's a fair bit from just a roof....... gotta love those Germans!

Well they do, and have, and will...............
I'm not going to go into the million variables that make it possible...
whatever...... nevermind the fact there's 15 years between the engines, and that the RB30 will still be going when the v6 has blown up!! Anyway, stupid argument, i'm sick of this.
Well im new here, and Im just like to say that was a good read about the engines etc ..... This place seems pritty cool !!!
Any ways ill see you all latter !!!
Petros, I totally agree with ya buddy hence I own one LoL
VLT are a hybrid bred of awesome piece of machinery built to last. Ford has a long way to go to catch up to the technoloy Nissan has achieved. Look at the RB and VG series motors (RB25DET, RB26DETT) some had VVT (Variable Valve Timing) which is currently a engineering trend in motors at the moment, everyone has taken up the technology.
We all thought Honda was the inventor of VVT, trust they were not. The VLT had muli-point injection and yes this was 17years ago. There was two injection squences, 1. Simulataneuous injection (all pistons work together and 2. group injection (pistons would work in groups).
Like people said, the VL/VLT is one best cars money could buy for under 10K or less.
I have tow truck drivers whom have claimed to see many VLs with 800,000km on the clock and all original and towed them home because of a dead CAS. I have seen some myself. My original NA motor is doing over 300,000 kms and still going strong.
Enough said, Long live the VLs
jasoncngo, WTF does Variable Valve Timing have to do with Multi Point injection? Squillions of cars have MPi.
As much as I like VLs, the Ford 6s have a rep for reliability as well, there is a reason taxi drivers use them.
Btw, has anyone here ever got 350kw out of their VLT with an exhaust and ECU tweak? Because some of you talk like you **** out 400 hp morning noon and night

I agree with you OldGold, however the Fords have the advantage of a litre more engine capacity, multi valves and a T04 over a VL. So they should sh*t all over a VL morning, noon and night!!!
Can't wait untill there are a few cheap XR6T's on the market.
We will all have so much fun!!

Lol, yeah, exactly that's why I'm sick of "Fordz r ****, VLT 4 eva"

Despite being a VL Turbo guy from way back, these XR6 Turbo's are definately at the top of my list when it come's to car's with potential.
Anyone doubting this can take a look at the Blood Orange example prepped by CV Performance, 10.9 out of a very 'stockish' package is crazy!
gxrb30: I thought there was a CSL in WA? Since the guy that let me drive his 325ti has driven one. And yes it was owned by BMW. He said that he really liked the M3 but it would be too much of a temptation to drive on the road, with all that "power n the sound" and mmmm ... ok ill stop there
Well this is why (one day) I want to build the RB30DE, I want to make an engine comparable to the RB30ET in terms of power, yet with no turbo. So I would need the RB25 vct head, port n polish, extractors n exhaust, autronic ecu, mild cams, high compression... Anything that wont cost an arm and a leg. I doubt I will get the 333 to 350hp that the M3 makes, I would want at least 250hp though. I read somewhere on the internet about a mechanic shop that went to the trouble in doing a rb26/30 conversion for a neo r34 GTR. The end result was only 265hp after about 10 grand of money spent... I don't think I would go that far... Quite difficult to put an RB30 block in a GTR due to lack of room. Shouldn't have the same problem for a VL or Torana though. I am sure that 250hp in a 1200kg car would be good fun. Nothing insane of course, I leave horses for courses.
By the way, the M3 weighs about the same as a VL. So you would need about 350hp at the flywheel to compete with an M3 for power to weight ratio. For turning around corners as well as the M3, you would need a lot of work on the chassis and suspension though. The M3 is a car in its own leage for sure!

People get 300/350hp out of full house carby 202s, so I'm sure if you were smart enough you could get it out of a RB30.
I reckon for 10 grand, if you did a lot of the work yourself, you could piss out 350fwhp from an RB30/25 combo. There's so many good bits off GTRs that people oft replace, the six throttle body intake manifold, injectors etc would be more than sufficient for a gun N/A. Hardcore GTR blokes always seem to replace them with bigger injectors and large single T/Bs.
Obviously this stuff isn't cheap but it's cheaper than custom stuff. I personally would love to see someone push the envelope on an N/A, not just for curiosity but cos I think it would be an awesome motor. Of course, it'd be best stuck in a Torrie or something of a similar weight.
I don't think the XR6T will take over from the VLT for along time. If at all due to sheer weight of the things... They need 350kw's just to run 12's. 350 in a vl runs into the 10's!
I think it's awsome the power they can make on stock parts and internals, and the price, my uncle bought 1 fully optioned (leather, sun roof, parking sensors) for $40k, that's unheard of for a new car!
I just don't think they will make it big at the drags. I'd be suprised if they make it to 8's in 10 years time without tubs, or even 9's for that matter...
TwinVL: Maybe shove a XR6T engine into a cortina or VL then, that would have to change things quite a bit.
OldGold: Exactly, except im only after 250hp, still would not mind having a go at making 300 to 350 hp with an RB30/25. Oh and yes, it will be in a torrie.
