I think this post has gone on long enough, it is not serving any purpose anymore. This will be my last post. The reference to 'bogan' was that of a commodore owner. The term 'intercooler noise' is a term used only on this forum ( a 'bogan' strong forum ). I clearly noted in my first post that I own a 'bogan mobile' commodore v8 myself. I never intended to offend anyone with the 'bogan' reference, if I have then I appologise. It is just a common term that I use, and are called myself because I own a commodore. Similarly, I am also commonly referred to as a 4 banger, rice burner, jap crap or just simply a f#cken import (usually by 'bogans') because I have a silvia. At the end of the day, whether its my '4 banger' silvia or the majority of the forums 'bogan mobile' vlt's, they are both performance cars, both turbocharged and are both powered by 'jap crap' nissan engines - hope that doesn't offend anyone! How about we just get on with our lives and enjoy our cars? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

It is true its mainly VL owners who think that the intercooler makes the noise. And why does a BOV make him a bogan? As I said before if you take offence to the word bogan grow the hell up. Its a term and each group of car enthusiasts has one - see you called him a rice burner. did you think before you said that? A VL has a Rice burner motor. Lighten up a little and stop trying to attack people each person has a right to their own view & say lay off just because on this forum he's out numbered in his view. Please people can we atleast keep the peace with out getting offensive.

I've heard multiple turbocharged cars 'flutter' running both no blow off valve and no intercooler. I've also heard intercooled cars 'flutter' without a blow off valve. People change their intake piping to all metal when putting on a big front mount intercooler, which in turn makes the spooling up noise of the turbo louder. My presumption is that its the actual intake that amplifies the 'flutter', if you have a stock VL turbo with stock intake piping leading to a pod filter, change all the intake piping to metal piping, much like you would when putting on an intercooler. Then you will hear the noise which has been incorrectly called a 'cooler noise' and is rather air that has nowhere to go after the throttle is snapped shut, which a blow off valve usually vents.

yeah but JET-6 you have a cooler hehe. my final say is this. "intercooler flutter" is not a technical term. no one thinks the intercooler makes the noise. we all know the turbo is the true source of it. but 99.99% of turbo cars without intercoolers dont flutter and a large proportion of intercooled cars do flutter. therefore i think it is perfectly understandable for a bunch of like-minded enthusiasts such as the chummy lil family of calaisturbo.com to use the term "intercooler flutter" as everyone here knows what it means. by using the term "intercooler flutter" we are not describing anything except that sound we all know and love. its just a way of communicating something easily.

Quote: I think it is quite interesting that 87VLT agrees with me (he has heard the noise) and he cops a great deal flack about it - yet the site administrator, Sin, also comments he has heard the same noise and no-one questions/challenges him at all. Hmmm....... why no flack directed at Sin. Maybe Sin should have just started the topic and no-one would have replied. 87VLT agrees with you because he obviously doesn't know the difference between wastegate woosh and intercooler flutter. Sin obviously isn't too certain on the noises either, i'll tell you right now that I think Sin is accidentally mistaking the noise for something which it isnt..but by saying that it doesn't really add any useful info to the discussion. I honestly don't even know why you started this topic yourself ? Its almost like you came and posted it just to make yourself look better than everone else with all ur technical jargon and ****. Go call it, "increased stress on the turbo shaft, resulting in du du du du noises while the air escapes from the intake" if you have to, but I find it alot easier just to call it "INTERCOOLER FLUTTER". And for those of you who claim to have heard a noise the same as this: http://www.dataweb-au.com/exchaser/80MVL_cooler.WMA on your UN intercooled vlt's.. id be very keen as some others are aswell to hear a sound file of it. Peace out ! Ollie

For the sake of not letting this argument/heat discussion/disagreement go any further I have edited out my last comment in hope that we can all go back to getting along.

Yes very mean, vstonv unless you have a MAP sensored aftermarket computer then the AFM has to stay put. You can move it to the cooler pipe though.

i can say that my car "flutters" with no intercooler and it can be heard from the standard air box. I know of other vls without intercoolers and the only noise you hear is just the turbo spooling and a small release of pressure. Mine seems to be different but isnt loud compared to someone running more boost with an intercooler. It is noticeable though. Just think of a vl on 10psi that makes a small noise as like a new standard 200sx. It is possible.. and yes i know they have an intercooler standard but it is like the same sound. If there are people still in doubt.. i would have to think about putting up a video cheers take care
