26-08-02, 16:01 GMT+10#64 Im considering dropping the exhaust this time, tho my mechanic said that it may make it go slower because i only have a small cam in at the moment (V8) and it needs some back pressure to make it work so ill see how energetic i feel on the day. My back seat and spare will be coming out this time too.
cya's there Dale

26-08-02, 18:01 GMT+10#65 Does taking the back seat out really make that much difference? i mean whats it weigh? about 10kg? i mean when you have a car thats already well over a ton, surely a back seat wouldn't make THAT much difference...
Excuse my ignorance on the matter.

26-08-02, 18:42 GMT+10#66 haha rob..
wight is everything my man... although a backseat only weighs about 4 kilos max.. it all helps..
takin out the backseat, parcel shelf with speakers, boot carpet & underlay as well as the spare tyre.... and then running not so much fuel in the tank.. all helps man..
unless of course u have a car with such monsterous HP that u need the weight to gain traction.. not that any Na vl's goning really do, no offence to anyone.
but yeah.. rob get over the whole weight reduction idea.. if u wanna prove if it makes a difference.. run ur car with all it in.. strip it and then run it again.. if the run and track conditions were pretty much the same and u went 3 tenths faster.. there's ur answer..
Anyway its next w/e.... whos actually going ?
Yes or No ? that is the question.

28-08-02, 15:47 GMT+10#67 should be a yes, although i'm not sure if i'll run now. had a trip to brissy last weekend and the auto slipped a couple of times the dirty ****. i'll still come and spectate anyway. i'll have a red spitfire flame on the back windscreen of a white/grey bumpers VL. so if u see me (or a white 5 lt VS with a jetpilot sticker), come say hi, coz i don't know u guys yet.

29-08-02, 18:13 GMT+10#72 Hey I have an idea Rob.. instead of removing the back seat.. maybe u should just move the numberplate over to the side of the bumper like u did on ur N/A vl for increased airflow through the radiator ?
just a thought.. u dont seem too keen on the backseat idea so i thought i'd just point u in a new direction of thought !
The cooler the motor the faster youll go
bye !

29-08-02, 20:04 GMT+10#73 Hahahaha good one....
I like it.
I was thinking more along the lines of a few strategically placed P Plates. They seem to add about 20kw at the wheels from what i've heard

02-09-02, 14:48 GMT+10#76 cant come as sisters 21st is on, cant see the point until I get LSD in car anyway,
and for the record for all you guys talking about weight reduction, last time we went, avatar pic to the left I had a boot full of ****e, including bags full cousins soccer gear and enough of my gear to live out of home for a few weeks, probably helped me take off though more than it slowed me down.
probably the best thing to do if your clutching at straws rob(my88vl) or should we call you my93lexcen :P would be to let your tyres down for traction, ill try that too next time

02-09-02, 17:53 GMT+10#78 Hey Fellas,
I can see why Ollie & Jay gutted the car, and yeah i have no doubt it was a factor involved in the 15.93....
But, i don't have the time to take out the back seat, and let me tell you, getting the back seat out of a VS is alot harder than a VL with only a few clips.
Anyway i'll drop the spare wheel, and MAYBE lose the sub for the weekend, i'll drop the pressure in the tyres and see how she goes.
Its had a service now and will be running on BP Ultimate. I launched pretty hard last night and it felt alot quicker so it should hit very very low 16's or high 15's

I hear ya luke!!
I'm thinking a good idea for next time would be lower tyre pressure 2. When we went, it was running in 100% street trim.
On another note guys, car had a full service & got RWC the other week...and its been having ongoing probs with the AFM. The mech had a play with that, fixed it all up....and I SWEAR the car has picked up another few 1/10's because of it. It's absolutely hammering at the moment! Faster than it's ever felt b4. Steve is very very happy with that!
I'm interested to see what it would run now...but yeah...LSD...it REALLY needs one.
Ah well, we'll see how things go with selling it first....cos it's now (finally) ready for sale!

02-09-02, 19:11 GMT+10#80 Hey guys, Jay's informed me that we also will not be attending, so yeah.
a few tips for u boys who are goin out there however.
*if u have a set of 185 or 195's on 14 or 15" rims, wack them on the front and pump em up to just under their max. inflation pressure. Run ur widest tyres on the rear and dump some air out of them for a better hook up off the mark.
*remove any air restrictions in the intake, such as AFM mesh inserts, air filter if u wish.
*run premium unleaded fuel, add octane booster to that and advance ur timing if u could be bothered.
*remove any unnecessary weight from the car, if u are that serious and could be bothered, take out the boot carpet, spare wheel and backseat.
there are lots of other 'little' things u can do but u just have to be imaginative to think of em.
have fun and go hard. rob ur car will definatly get in the 15's now man, u were pretty close last time out.
