Can any of you fullas help with this? Put a thread in the electrical section, but not a single reply. Hayden gave me some suggestions on FB, but the fuse rail is very melted and it is hard to see the connections!! replacing fuse box fuses with inline fuses So I have the common VL problem of my fuse rail having melted significantly in the last week. I have one of Niches new fuse rails on order, so I'm just in need a temporary fix. The fuses that have melted are numbers 3,5 and 6. The fuses aren't blowing, simply melting. Replacing the fuel pump fuse (3) looks to me no problem, but fuses 5 (air cond/blower) & 6 (horn and stop lights) only have a wire going into one side of the fuse what's the go here? How do I go about re-wiring these?

5&6 - do they look like they perhaps earth to somewhere, like to the body of the fuse rail or something? sorry bit hard to explain what i mean. or maybe those 2 and possibly others are sharing a common earth connection? I've never had a close look at the VL's fusebox. seems odd that they only have one wire coming out of them.

I've just got new number plates for my wagon. I've had to register them to my pulsar cos my wagon is on hold for them to send the plates to me. Question is do I put them on my pulsar until the wagon is registered? ---------- Post added 29-02-12 at 20:15 ---------- Quote: Originally Posted by NZ_GTS [View Post] Can any of you fullas help with this? Just chop them off under the plastic ( that's melted) and connect up ur fuse ( how ever you choose) quite easy Hope this helps Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I agree, it does seem odd that they don't go anywhere - but when you flip the rail over you can clearly see the bottom of the terminal (looks like the crimp end of a spade connector). The terminal doesn't look like it has ever been crimped, but the rail is also quite melted, so it is hard to see whether these fuses share an earth somehow. There are no 'spare' wires in the fuse box. ---------- Post added 01-03-12 at 10:25 ---------- Quote: Originally Posted by jsobey [View Post] I've just got new number plates for my wagon. Whether you put them on the Pulsar is up to you. I dunno what your plate is, but if it was something like FASTRB, or whatever, then it would probably look a little silly. But... I have seen an SS Commodore with the plate HSV 317 on it. Go figure... Fuses: Not 100% sure what you mean. So the fuse is purely for the relay? If there were TWO wires under each fuse, it would've been real easy to chop off the old fuse and solder in the inline ones, but as the fuses I mention only have ONE wire coming out of ONE side of the fuse, I don't know what to do. Where do I wire the other end of the fuse? To an earth? I can't see if the fuses are connected with a common earth somehow, and I don't wanna c0ck this up! A running fuel pump is fairly important to me! The Gregory manual is no help, and nor was posting the the electrics part of the forum! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Can you please take a few photos of the fuses with only one wire coming out of them? ---------- Post added 01-03-12 at 15:57 ---------- I think these are the Max Ellery's diagrams (I have both gregory's and max at home but I can't remember which these are from) - http://www.insanevl.com/wiring/ Going by those it looks as if the fuserail all share a common connection to the battery positive (which makes sense - I should have thought of that). So grab your new inline fuse - you'll have to join one side to the wire that is coming out of the old fuse (doesn't matter which one). And the other side you will have to somehow join to the Positive feed inside the fusebox - you'll just have to try and find somewhere there to join it up. Have you got an example pic of the inline fuse you are talking about? Is it one of these: http://www.jaycar.co.nz/ShowLargephoto.asp?id=4005&PRODNAME=5AG%2060%20Amp %20In%20Line%20Fuse%20Holder&IMAGE= (http://www.jaycar.co.nz/ShowLargephoto.asp?id=4005&PRODNAME=5AG%2060%20Amp%20In%20Line%20Fuse%20Holder&IMAGE=) or: http://www.jaycar.co.nz/ShowLargephoto.asp?id=3999&PRODNAME=30A%20InLine%2 0Blade%20Fuseholder&IMAGE= (http://www.jaycar.co.nz/ShowLargephoto.asp?id=3999&PRODNAME=30A%20InLine%20Blade%20Fuseholder&IMAGE=) Sam

looking at mine im pretty sure they do have a common power feed in the fuse box.( power or ignition, what ever it it?) easiest option find a good auto sparky :P haha pm me i no one lol ---------- Post added 01-03-12 at 17:00 ---------- oh also i got the plates phatvl, i'm thinking they wont suit my pulsar lol the company remake wouldn't send them out to me with out a vehicle that they could be regod to so i thought id get them sent out under my pulsar so i dont forget about them at this remake company. decisions decisions might just put them on the pulsar and run around with them... ill look like a twat but all good i wont loose them haha

I managed to solder in 5 inline fuses over the weekend, but not before the fuse rail caught fire! The fuse box looks real hori at the moment, but hopefully it wont be long until my 'Niche LED fuse rail' turns up. Unfortunately after my rewiring effort, the central locking is no longer working, and nor is the clock or interior light! I'm hoping the new fuse rail will fix this!

clock or interior light, theyre not linked....... For your central locking, check the line fuse for that relay. it should have one to isolate it from the alarm brain

I use contact grease on all my fuse links and never have a problem,Make sure even with your new rail use electrical contact grease. It is the dry joints that fail. Cheers Marty

Got no brake lights or horn either... Will check fuse for central locking. Strange thing is, you can hear the relay clicking when I push the alarm button, yet the doors don't do anything. Tried switching relays around, but that didn't do jack! Blaardy typical - the wiring is pretty much the only thing I didn't replace, and of course it's now giving me grief!

Hi, Is there a colour code for the silver bumpers? I need a touch up can for my Carbine grey Royale with silver bumpers. Cheers, Jeromy.

The bright Silver bumpers are "4J023 Asteroid Trim Paint 1986 Calais Bumpers" The dark Grey bumpers are "4H017 Grey Metallic Paint 1986-1988 SL/Berlina Bumpers" Ive had a couple cans of the dark grey mixed up for my cars, its near impossible to tell the difference Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Most of the time it is dry contact joints,I always use 33 fine moly electrical contact grease.Do that before it starts to warp.Once there is not enough contact the heat build up(and then the contacts lose there tension) and then will warp and melt the rail.Like everything it needs maintance.People complain about there electric windows,But if you use dry glide so the poor old motor does not slug it's guts out they will out last your hand winder. But saying that they need greasing as well. Cheers Marty ps when I reassembled the car my new loom all the din plus and contact got greased
