I've never been pulled up on not having a high stop light but as aus880 has said if it's there it needs to work or it will fail

i removed mine. didnt have any issues. still have the unit just incase Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I had to install a rear stop light on my vl cause it was imported in 95. Normally vls can get away with not having them
