well i went out and bout the mag and it was sort of useful i had already sorted out the certifier but there was something interesting. here is what it says. Me, hey guys great mag! i'm currently building a twin turbo holden commodore vl that im hoping to convert to awd i know this is possible because it has been done twice in aussie. my question is how do you think i will get on certyifying this? my other question is what size turbos do you think i should use? (i skiped some out cause you no most of the details and i couldnt be bothered typing it all out again) NZPC I can't see a problem with certification as long as you follow the LVV code. Best thing would be to employ the services of a LVV certifier as quickly as possible so they can steer you in the right direction and oversee the modifications along the way. it's not hard to get good power out of the setup you have. there are many turbo combos to choose from. for example, a pair of stock TD05 turbos from an evo would see 750hp. a pair of TD06/5 hybrids with 80mm turbines will net you 1000hp on 20 - 25psi boost. personally i like the mitsubishi turbos as they make copnsistant and reliable power, but a pair of IHI RX-6s or garret GT2876s will do the same job - it's more just a matter of taste and how you can get them onto the side of the engine the most straightforward way. the most improtant thing will be the engine managament and the finale tune. the power levels you are after arn't hard to achieve as long as you follow all the rules in building a good, strong engine. 1000 hp COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLL better start looking for a couple of TD06/5 hybrids that would be the sh!t Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Yes very cool, but a 1000hp twin turbo manual 4WD VL will cost you $100,000 absolute minimum

auckland fuel injection and turbo specilists in onehumgs, malvern place. They have everything you will need

Reckon you'd need a bloody good cage too. 1000hp in a floppy old VL? Scary!

it would be pointless. were the hell would you use 1000hp in a car as light as a vl. if you flored it it would just flip striaght over on its roof from the twist. HHHHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMM sounds fun im not makeing any plans to make that sort of power, but that said when i get to 750-800 it would be interesting to see how much more work would be required to make 1000. oh yer, here is the reason progress is so slow at the moment i need a warrant on the love of my life and while its getting justa small tidy up at the moment its white and has a huge dent in the door so and need new tryes. so new paint job tyres and a bit of a straiten and maby a bit of a polish under the bonet wont take long here is my baby my VN GTS Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

oh yer that car got totaled, assho!es speeding past a sports day i was attending and idiots park on the road as i edged out to see if anything was comeing they hit me at 120km basically put the engine in the front seat. (quite possible the worst day of my life) so i shiped a new gts up from downsouth from a repo company and it turned out the the new one had been owned by drug freaks, found needles everywere and the cops said it wasnt there problem and to ring the local council and the council said to ring the cops - tipical. the one i bout is white and has had a hiding, so out came the engine, gearbox, loom all the wiring from front to back, lights and interior basically everything that unbolts and put all my stuff on it like my engine and box and everything else was new, so now it runs well drives well but looks like sh!t. oh yer we took them to court and the insureance company is investigating cause the driver was only 14! so i dont really no what there i in investigate but oh well, thats the justice system for you. so im just gona get it back to how i had it before. oh and for gas round town its hopeless but on the open road, you prob wont beleive this but its true i got from taihape to hamiton and back to palmy then back to taihape then to feilding on one tank (63litre) i cant really compare it to the vl cause i never drove the vl sensibly - ever something that you guys will prob like to do as it make your engine bay look stunning 1. remover whichever parts of the engine would would like to be shiny e.g. intake manifold, brake cylinder, basically anything thats cast iron or alloy. 2. use a wire brush attachment on a drill or angle grinder ($10 at repco) and go over it till its shiny take bout 2 seconds on each part otherwise it will gouge 3. go over it with a fine (600 grit or higher) wet and dry sand paper in a circular motion to remover the directional makes from the wire brush. 4. bolt it back on total cost $12 for a very nice looking, standard engine bay. im doing it to my gts as the V6s to so dam ugly

I don't know why they used the GTS name for a V6! They've done another stupid one with the VE GTR which is an NZ only model V6 with a badge and bigger rims... Whats wrong with Holden NZ!

dont be too cut...everything has been done in a VL Turbo....unless you want to be the 1st to crack 1000HP in a SOHC VL Calais Turbo.

i think you've gotten wrapped up in the excitement of building something different and don't really have a final goal, or a reasonable one at least and cutting up shells and swapping them around? sounds like a recipe for disaster, not to mention you wouldn't have a AWD vl you built, you'd have an AWD skyline you cut open and put a 20 year old mask over the top of sohc rwd vl's have proven big power and proven quick times, MAXPSI went 10.1 on 18's??? look at these vl's pulling big power and quick times on the quarter and think how much it cost them to get there with no fabrication costs involved like what your talking about, i think NZ EVLHSV is spot on with his estimate and if you can do it on the cheap how many corners are you cutting? you said your gonna do it once and do it right??? the final arguement is i'm sure most people on this site have had this same thought, workshops, individuals, the bottom line is for the money you'll spend making ur AWD twin turbo twin cam vl do a 10 second quarter you could probably build 5 standard calais turbos that perform the same
