19-09-05, 19:00 GMT+10#81 Man my car drives like a stocker so yeah that answers your question in regards to drivability.........Costs involved? Ive had mates that have looked at putting a blower on their injected 5.0s and god damn its pricey let alone a rebuilt motor with any sort of decent cam etc....Let alone converting it allinto a VL! Dont even talk about costs involved!...lol! Ive probably spent half of what you have and achieve just as good a drivability as your ride? Real grunt?lol... Its all horsepower at the end of the day...raced your car lately?
I wasn't arguing with the guy! He's entitled to his opinion and me mine.

true true i agree with u on that every one is entitled to an opinion even wankers who own $900 cars and reckon are cars are **** as 4 how much its cost me eat30t did most of it so the car didnt cost me too much. it realy dose drive like a stocker dude and its not that loud until u mash the pedel and scare the **** out of the person whos beside u. just a question 4 u at what boost did u run 12.0 and what slicks, fule did u use just wondering and do u have the standard lsd center in ur diff?

What sort of power is it making at 1300rpm?
Mines making 50rwkw at 1300rpm and 100rwkw by 2000rpm. Obviously the small turbo has it topping out at 176rwkw by 4400rpm that flatlines until 5000rpm then begins to drop off.
It has so much more punch off the mark than my old VS 5ltr and roughly on par with the new 6.0ltr LS2, when comparing dyno graphs that is.
Obviously my peak power isn't as high as the LS2 but still not too bad for 9psi from such a small turbo.
I've owned a VS 304, 5speed.. They are hardly, a torque monster. :P
The GM 5.7ltr is a little better but still nothing like the new LS2's.
Im looking forward to a larger turbo that makes less power off off idle, at the moment off the line it simply doesn't hook up.
+ I very much like my 11L per 100km's of fuel compared to my old VS's 15-16L/100kms.
Fun factor = forced induction.
N/A unless its a 200+rwkw v8 is rather boaring.
V8 + forced induction is the ultimate fun factor and the drivability with huge power is awesome.

Car runs 18psi, I did put about 15 litres of AVGas in it on the day but it was still running the same tune I run on 98 pump ( AV just a precaution more than anything...). I was running M/T ET 26x8.5x15" slicks and running the standard 3.45 LSD. Was the first time ive run on proper slicks so need a bit more practice but 60fts were ok at 1.7sec.
Be interested to know how yours goes if you get a chance to have a run?

It run 12.9 @ 105 mph on street tyres bouncing off the rev limiter at 3/4 track and with the rev limiter set at 5500rpm (should be spinning to 6500) , pump gas , drove it there no stall convertor , 2.0 60 ft time and finally no tune !! and on 5 psi , So it needed heaps of sorting out, Also Stock internall's car is still going strong 2 years on and never misses a beat !! just ask PSI 05L
Believe me I used to drive it everyday for over one year no probs

and what makes you the judge of that? alot of great track cars were turbo, the F-40 for one, twin turbo 3L V8, ultimate combo.
but because some 15 year old with an n/a vl who is jealous of people with turbos says they'd blow up at the 15th lap of course it'll happen.

Then how the f uck do skylines go with racing? and WRX's ? thats the dumbest crap I have ever heard.

Thats great and im sure it is going strong, no reason it wouldn't...One or two questions, why would you bother taking it for a run if it was 'SO' unsorted?
Maybe the standard cam wouldnt make power after 5500 anyway? Why was it on the limiter at 3/4 track? Has it got 4.9gears and a trimatic or something?
and if you are looking for a fairer comparison just out of interest before I had my motor freshened it ran a 12.5@113mph on 18" street tyres and pump fuel. Drove it there drove it home as I did anyway when I ran slicks and runners ...what fun that was.lol.

21-09-05, 14:05 GMT+10#91 VL-Racer, must be a comedian.
Rev's is what kills motors.
N/A V8 making to make 600kw is going to need some serious rev's.
The Forced induction 600kw motor be it a 6cyl or v8 won't need as many rev's to make the same power, as a result the motor will last longer under race conditions.
Those road reg'd LS1 turbo kits are awesome. If only I had the money. :P
With regards to turbo's blowing up, many of you lot probably remember the Bathurst Ford Sierra with clouds of white smoke trailing. The new gen ball bearing garret turbo's have an extremely long life, they don't do the seals as the old school bush turbo's do when pushed hard. They are supposed to have a service life of 70,000km's vs the bush's 30,000km's.
All though understreet only (no track) conditions they often last much longer.

No idea, never been on a dyno.
I can prove it if you don't believe me. I never take it above 2000rpm when driving normally (and can still easily keep up with traffic), and it usually does about 1100rpm when cruising on flat road.
You said earlier on that you had a 3" exhaust or something, didn't you? That'd kill all the bottom end torque.

Maybe on your stocko V8 but any turbo car will gain from a full system...down low up high, everwhere.

I believe you. Mine used to limp around at those revs also. It wasn't a rocket ship at those rev's but it would lug up hills without issues.
I had a 3.5" single on it, the 3.5" over the old 3" made a heap more torque through the mid range and raised peak power by 10rwkw.
One question.. Is yours an auto? The auto's seem to hide the 5ltr's <3000rpm hole.
It used to run 225's on a set of VR GTS 16" wheels. Rolling on in first from 1000rpm, plant it, she would start to move hit 3000rpm and break in to wheel spin, you could actually hear the exhaust note change.
It was the same before it had the cam in it but wouldn't spin up the 225's in first rolling on, the stock 215's it would though. The cam definitely woke it up with zero difference to bottom end torque.

21-09-05, 14:59 GMT+10#95 the stock holden injection system is laggy

21-09-05, 15:05 GMT+10#96 What do you mean by the injection system is laggy?
Do you mean the general setup of the inlet manifold etc?
The ecu was remapped also.

21-09-05, 15:12 GMT+10#97 The 5 litres definately provide more noticable low down torque compared to the LS1s...
The LS1s now theyre f ukn 'laggy' on the other hand they do love to rev...

Yep... Stock as a rock auto Statesman.
Mine comes on to the powerband at about 2200rpm, you can feel it push you back in the seat suddenly even when just driving with light throttle. Almost like a turbo

You should see mine, V8 with 205s on the back. It's a death trap in the wet, even when I'm deliberately trying to drive slowly it still gets wheelspin.
I don't drive it hard anyway... The only reason I bought a V8 was for the sound and torque.

umm, I meant considering that I'm only using light throttle.
