Finally got everything and installed the struts, they work fine but the drivers side strut is not straight and when you close the bonnet it doesn't close smoothly like the passenger side. Bonnet sits ok when closed.

Well I just found out that ppl bend the struts when they get weak so they don't have to replace them. Bloody tight ar$e$.

Alrighty, I've done mine, now I can't open my bonnet. Great.
It's sits flush, no worries, but I pull on the bonnet release, and no joy..

u will need someone to push done on the middle front of the bonnet, to relieve the some pressure of the lock, somehow it's causing to much pressure on the lock so it can't release!

I did mine the other day but the bonnet seems to open up less than when i had the factory rod in and the bonnet also doesnt sit flush. The left sits up and the the right sits too far down?? I had a look at my struts on my tailgate and the ones i have for the bonnet are smaller, but i saw the guy take them from a vl tailgate???????

The measurements of the vl tailgate struts are on one of the first pages, so you can confirm that they are the correct struts you have there.
I have them on my car.
2x Balls from VL Wagon Tailgate
2x Gas Struts for VL Wagon Tailgate
2x Ball brackets from VR/VS Commodore
They work a charm and the bonnet should open fractionally more than with the standard bonnet prop.

What is the fix so I don't need someone to push on the bonnet to get the mongrel open?

Man i'm in a similar situation.
I have to reach under with the left hand, reaf the lever and then thump down with my right so tthat the bonnent opens. Its a bitch but it works, and is somewhat of a 'single theif deterant'. It is a pain in the ass through thats for sure.
Surelly there's a better way

Dave start with tightening your bonnet release cable and see if that fixes it. There's a little bracket for the cable at the front of the car near the radiator, loosen that and see if you can pull the cable a bit tighter.

The ball joint doesnt have to come from VR/VS. All other cars especially hatch backs and wagons have the same ball joints !!! I examined most of the cars at the wreckers the ball joints are all the same. Don't pay $8 for a ball joint.
Best fit I reckon is the FORD XT upwards they have gas struts on the bonnets just use a flat head and pop them out. You will need someone to help you hold the bonnet otherwise you cop it on the head.
You will need a 12mm spanner. The threads are all the same as the VL bonnets. Maybe I should sell ball joints @ $5 a pop. Good business hehehehe.
The bracket 90degree bracket is good but you dont need it (like pookies said) if you pull the piece under the guard out and replace it with a washer and nut.
The Struts are very popular and are very hard to find second hand ones especially on holdens as every man and his dog wants to do the bonnet gas strut conversion, I couldnt find any......see below....eheehehehe
I used a strut from a toyota hatch back hehehehehe.
