The flutter is actually occurs when the throttle is closed and the air is forced back out the turbo compressor. It is actually bad for the turbo also. To fix, add a blow off valve. Cheers

Just think of a vl on 10psi that makes a small noise as like a new standard 200sx. It is possible.. and yes i know they have an intercooler standard but it is like the same sound. If there are people still in doubt.. i would have to think about putting up a video cheers take care BTW: All VLT's actually have a factory intercooler so the sound may simply vary when aftermarket ones are fitted.

No I'm not. All VLT's have intercoolers. The 'flutter' noise is probably there but less pronounced than with the fridges on some VLTs.

I've been reading this topic and noticed that part of it has developed into an 'us and them' thing. The 'us' being those with factory or aftermarket intercoolers on their cars ( VLTs, Silvias etc) versus those with cars without any intercoolers...'them' All this talk of intercooler 'flutter' and what causes it etc. IMHO the trouble is that I regularly hear many turbo/intercooled cars being driven in a manner specifically to maximise or create this 'flutter', usually on busy roads in heavy traffic. I've yet to see any girls drop their pants and jump into one of these cars so I'm buggered if I know the reason why they want to create the noise in the first place other than for some form of audible fashion statement. Anyway in an effort to bring us all back together and try to cut out the 'us versus them' I'm just pointing out to you that all VLT's come with intercoolers anyway so can those with aftermarket 'coolers' please stop worrying about whether a factory VLT produces the same flutter and visa versa? We all have intercooled VLTs so who cares about what noise is produced? Kalamakids: I've been impressed with your tech posts elsewhere so far so don't let me down with this one, just think about it. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Well well well, what an interesting topic.. in the 4 pages of fun and adventure ive seen some cat fights, people getting upset hell why dont we just start a soapy or something. it would probably be better than some of the crap thats on T.V now. i will add my one and only comment... i have a vl Turbo... no intercooler...no blow off valve....it makes the noise...the theory behind it is fairly simple. yes adding a intercooler will make it louder, becuase more piping etc etc etc, but ultimatly its becuase the pressure is running back though the turbo and it makes the woo noise that sound pretty cool but from what i have heard isnt overally good for your turbo. i cant see why everyone is arguing over it. its not really rocket science. people are asking for recording non intercooled cars making the noise...i would do that but **** its quite a waste of time and i have better things to do, you can say what you want but i can tell you and anyone else that has been in my car will be able to tell you that non intercooled turbos make that "flutter" noise, now i have nothing against people calling it a intercooler flutter, if thats how you can explain it to someone then be my guest, i havent personally used that term and prefer the "turbo flutter". but thats me. i seriously cant believe this post has gone on for so many pages. P.S..have a nice day. -Bob. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I've got some good news for you BoostCalais: Your VLT is intercooled, just like all were from the factory. Sorry to shock some with aftermarket intercoolers but that's life. And BTW I agree with everything else you posted: flutter, whoop whoop, doo doo who cares, we all love VLTs and thats what it comes down to.

Your a crack up aus880, A cop said the same thing to me once('All VL's are intercooled, so why is your's off'). I laughed in his face until he got pissed off. Could you please tell me exactly where the standard intercooler is on the VL, is it intergrated in the crossover pipe or something
