If it is the windscreen, chances are there is a bit of the infamous VL cancer in there. If so, screen needs to come out ($150 ish to remove and refit a screen) and the rust will need to be cut out and fresh metal welded in. $XXX!

Went out in Milk last night around Auckland City and started to hear this rumble coming from the front... Only guess was the front wheel bearings, although they had been changed (along with pads and discs) before i got the car about 2 years back Took the discs off today and couldnt believe what i found Both sides had about a fingers worth of grease inside This is the outer shell from the drivers side... And the passengers side...Couldnt believe it was this bad This hole goes right through the shell Goes to show what happens when you dont pack the bearings properly with grease Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

If you have glass insurance, your insurance company will probably cover it. Just need to get a really bad stone chip...

you'll be looking at around 700-800 to get the rust around the windscreen taken out. I had mine done a year and half ago, (only intended to replace cracked windscreen - which insurance paid for), was quoted $360 +gst, went to pay for it and they told me $660 or something +gst. so i was like heck no that aint what you quoted, turns out they forgot to add up the quote properly lol, but they stuck to the quote and I only had to pay the 360. but yea expect around 700-800, they repainted my whole roof. (and make sure they do a GOOD job - firstly they couldn't get a perfect colour match - I should have told them to redo it but they took long enough as it was and i wanted the car back, secondly, the rust is allready coming back thru again (even within a year after it was repaired), I tried to go back there but they had disappeared. (my insurance company State sent me to Smith & Smith to get my windscreen replaced, Smith and Smith wouldnt replace it without getting the rust fixed so they sent the car to the local panel beater that they used. If you know of a good panel beater - take your car to them! don't let your glass company or anyone else tell you where to go.
