again agreed. BUT we are talking about new and inexperianced p plate drivers here so there is no need for them to be cutting wicked 60 footers let alone drive any sort of hi performance cars on the streets. when there a little older with more road experiance and off there p plates then there is no limit to what they can drive.
topic is hoons and videos.
You're another one that seems to believe that once someone gets off their Ps, their driving skill just magically goes up by 1000%, and they can handle any performance vehicle out there.
WRONG.
It will make absolutely no difference.
'Road experience' has got nothing to do with making stupid choices like reaching the speed of 140km/h on a public road.. nor does it have anything to do with stupid choices like driving under the influence, or packing 6 people into a car that is designed to seat 5.
What do YOU classify as a 'hi performance car' then?
I still see 'adults' aged 25-45 who lose it around corners or while dropping a burnout etc. Again.. just because you're off your Ps doesn't mean you can handle a powerful car.
This is why things like defensive & advanced driving courses, and skid pan days SHOULD be utilised.

yes the guy in his 40s was trying to reverse park at the funeral or near the funeral and backed into a car then the driver of the damaged car stood in front of the drunk guys car and cops who were present came over and he got done.
he wont be labled a hoon as there was no speed involved.
i agree its plain and simply unfair the media and police are targeting p platers but lets face it they are the largest majority who get caught out wether it be burnouts speeding or general clowning around. it was also noted on the news about the burnouts that have been happening a few kilometers away from the scene of the accident in thomastown they were showing the marks.
if it continues it at this pace it will end up leading to car crushing eventually wether you like it or not.
its not you nor me nor many others that are doing these things its the guys that are new to having licences in stock v6s etc stuffing it for the lot of us.

21-01-10, 20:41 GMT+10#103 Give it a few weeks and the media storm will blow over, always does. Then maybe in 6-8 months time it will re-kindle again.
Until then, we have a ****ed train system, the tennis, a prince and sam newman to make up stories about.

Not very often. But last year I saw no less than 10 people lose it (over the age of 25).
Luckily every time this happened there weren't any trees or powerpoles next to the gutter -_-
It's absolutely beside the point anyway.
My point is that when you get off your Ps, you don't automatically become a better driver and able to handle a high performance/high powered car.
A better scheme would be that if you want to drive a high powered vehicle, then you have to have successfully completed a defensive and advanced driving course. (maybe have a notation on your lisence to say you're able to drive a high powered vehicle).
At least it would then prove that you have had some training, and some knowledge in how to handle the vehicle you drive. As you have stated, and I'm sure very well know, alot of kids dont.
You can see it in the mentality of 18-21yos and even through these forums, that this age group can't wait to get off restrictions and drive a powerful car.
At least some compulsory training would make them 'more able' to handle it, and slightly wiser than what they maybe with this "**** YEAH DROP A BURNOUT" attitude.
Not having a dig man. Just saying that better schemes need to be implemented in relation to the topic at hand.
More restrictions won't solve a thing.

yeah mate thats cool thats what sensible debate is about.
people might think im coming down on p platers but im not the thing is though you get young kids like the last bunch ages ago that was on the front of the herald sun saying there from thomastown hoon car club etc and you wont stop us blah blah blah. dont these morons realise the media thrive on hearing this this is absolute music to there ears they cannot get enough of it thats what they want you to say so they can run away and put it on every channel of the news and every newspaper australia wide.
there the people im talking about. the type with the fully sick slammed on there guts vn-vz with stock v6s who drive around 24/7 with 20s on the front and ceptors on the back ripping burnouts in macdonalds car parks coz theres a heap of people hangin and there just gota show how hektik they are.
im not sure if you notice this or not but theres not one day i dont see some young dude 18-20yo p plate dude swerving in and out of traffic cos the want to be at the front at a set of lights.
fair enough its there car its there choice but that as a whole generalises people who have genuinely nice fast and hi powered cars that dont mind the odd out on a sunny sunday drive.
another thing with speed limiters would be it would wreck there burnout shows because it would limit wheel speed.
i do agree on the advanced driving it sounds like a good idea. but then as mentioned earlier you would have people thinking i passed my advanced driving course i can do what i want on the street type of attitude.
maybe 110k speed limitors till off there p plates to get general road experiance and knowledge and then to have an open full licence to drive a hi powered car you must do and pass an advanced driving course.
everybodys got there own thoughts to the matter so it would probly never be settled but one things for sure if the car crushing legislation comes in dont think it will be turned back around its here to stay for good.
if i had a choice i would rather sacrifice and have the p plate 110k speed limiter thing in place than have car crushing anyday.

22-01-10, 06:41 GMT+10#106 aus880, i take my Hat off to you, if you work with trying to Teach people about the Dangers of Driving, it does suprise me though that people would not stop to think if they see the ramifications to there actions though .
I know for me personaly, that after seeing my Brother in there, and watching the amount of Pain he's in, with the Bone Grafts, Skin Grafts, the Scaffolding that's still on his Wrist, and the Future Operations he has to go through, just to KEEP his Hand, he will never be able to use his Wrist again, and MIGHT have 60% Hand strength, after it's all said and done, has shown me how easy it is, to be Maimed for life, or even Dead, the Police at the Acco said "mate you should be Dead" .
The above Accident has Shown my Family and Freinds how Fragile our Bodys are.
If the Goverment built the best Drag\Burnout strip in the world, right in the middle of the CBD, this and many other Accidents like it, will still happen though, as NO Track manager is going to let an Un-reged pissed Driver have a run, so they will do what they do now, and unfortunatly keep hurting themselves.
As far as increasing the penaltys for "Hoon" driving, it's a great way for the Goverment to look like there doing something, while reaping very little exept for more Money, there is no way Crushing a "Hoons" car, will stop any one doing stupid things, as every one thinks "They wont Catch me".
The Goverment\Coppers, don't need to make the Driving Laws harsher, the clowns just need to ENFORCE the ones we allready have, but that wont look good on TT\ACA.
I don't think that as soon as you get off you're P's, you're Magicly turned into an awsome driver, that can handle any thing on the Road, it could be the extra 3-4 Years experiance , i'm a better driver now than when i was 18, and i'm sure i'll be better at 40 than 32
At the end of the Day though, it is OUR responsibilty to Drive with in the Law\abilitys, or you pay the price, this person did'nt.
Off my Soad box now

While it may not have stopped this prang, THIS prang will never happen again.. it has already happened. We are trying to prevent future incidents, all of which have their own set of circumstances

if so then yes the alcohol contributed
but don't blame it solely on alcohol, otherwise you could say "if he drove slowly while drunk then the crash wouldn't happened", he sped (big time, plus an overloaded car) as well as being drunk
saying that i do support increased penalties for DUI/PCA
Yes he did, word is that he had been infront of a judge for that very reason.
