you think... mate i know a stock manual VLT would be quicker than an ED XR6, im sure there are a few stock VLT's around Newy for you to test your theory... dont even start on a modified VLT vs. ED XR6 mate, there would be no fucking chance

10-02-08, 18:37 GMT+10#106 Man, a stock VLT would waste a factory ED XR6 or XR8 so hard the poor falcon wouldn't know what hit it! Unless the vlt was a clapper of course..
And I think A VLT is much more than just a VL with a turbo strapped to it. They are more than the sum of their parts in practice, in the end driving a VLT is a completely different experience to driving an n/a VL. When i drive an n/a VL i feel like i'm driving a red p-platers car, a VLT is something special-ish most of the time .
N/As still have their place, but they simply cannot be compared to their turbo brothers.
And i've owned more n/as than turbos for the record!!

10-02-08, 19:19 GMT+10#107 God some of you know how to have a cry... Oh wow a motor with forced induction makes power easier than a motor without? You can't be serious?
Some people are actually interested in a little more power without stepping into the hassles that come with forced induction. Its not always a case of money, Many people are now restricted in the cars they are allowed to drive, Many states outrulling turbos and v8's. While others may find obtaining insurance nearly impossible if not it comes at a hefty price.
To say that the rb30 is impossible of making any kind of power over stock is pretty ignorant thinking. For example the Tommy Kiara M30

Pretty decent power considering that its completely N/A and wait for it... Carby too.... everything most of you turbo guys seem to hate...
But wait there's more.... Stock VLT power output

I think you can work out the maths there...
Also might pay to note the power to weight restrictions for Victorian P platers is 150kw per tonne if i recall rightly.
Well 180kw in a SL VL Commodore (1200kg) works out to be on the limit for power to weight.
180kw / 1200kg * 1000 = 150kw per tonne
End Rant

10-02-08, 19:24 GMT+10#108 So the VLT in factory form makes peak torque 1600rpm earlier, not to mention more of it? Not bad for a mass production engine versus a specialised and built performance one.

10-02-08, 19:39 GMT+10#109 And i dont disagree that "a motor with forced induction makes power easier than a motor without" but as said its not always a case of simply 'bolting on a turbo'
All im pointing out is that it isn't impossible to produce a decent amount of streetable power from the n/a motor. It really isn't just the case of "junk metal and crude oil" that some people have littered this thread with. The power can be achived if you're willing to spend some money on it.

10-02-08, 20:26 GMT+10#110 yes power can be made from these motors but no one has really gorna all out on one yet to see what it really can do

11-02-08, 00:17 GMT+10#111 Reading this thread just makes me jealous I own an N/A and most of you kents own nice VLT's. And I feel embarrassed now because I own an N/A and this guy is bragging like they're equal to a VLT.

11-02-08, 00:33 GMT+10#112 god its annoying when people compare cars to the standard vlt setup. Standard vlt's are poo, slugs. Exhaust, boost and intercooler makes a world of difference! Who cares if they had 150kw from the factory

I'm sorry, where did i say they were equal to a VLT in standard form??
And if you think its ****ing annoying when people talk about outright power figures of stock VLT's? Try finding any kind of relevent information about an n/a without some ****witt answering "buy a turbo"

11-02-08, 14:12 GMT+10#116 I have an excuse for trying to get as much out of my N/A as possible.... The series rules will not allow me to run a turbo. That's my excuse anyway and I am sticking to it...
A VLT on dirt would be a nightmare any way.... Sure it would look great throwing rooster tails 40 feet and showering the next competitor in rocks, but it would be too much of a handfull on dirt. Let alone if it rains....

don't forget the vlt figures are quoted at the fly where as the n/a ones are rwkws.

plenty of people have tried and giving up are wasting huge amounts of $$ for such little results, with a decent cooler kit and exhaust (minor mods) and a bit of boost in it standard VLT's can make anywhere up to 170-180rwkw, the amount of $$ you would spend on a n/a VL to get anywhere near that would be the same if not more than buying yourself a nice calais turbo, then theres the fact you can only make so much power out of a n/a 3L and you will hit a dead end, VLT's there is that many different options and boundaries are just getting pushed further and further after 20 years....still developing...
any1 spending serious coin on a n/a VL in an attempt to get power out of it needs to get some form of social life.....

11-02-08, 19:11 GMT+10#119 my N/A Calais is awsome...
coz i converted it haha.
seriously if you hate turbos so much and want to throw some hard earned at a crapheap, to be "different", why not just chuck a stroker in or a small block or something.
TURBO = awsome, fun, cheap, fast - who cares if every kents got one, theres a good reason why.
and to all you n/a's too scared to go turbo because of pig hassell, its called sleeper.
good day
