03-02-11, 09:22 GMT+10#101 Hey Mate, What does your build tag say for axle with the factory LSD?
I have two wagons, and both have different codes for the Axle, but both were apparently LSD from factory...

1. The firewall tags for all sixes should say Axle - GM3
2. The code on the production broadcast sheet for the LSD will say G80.
3. It should have a brown filler plug on the rear cover if LSD.
4. Finally, the ID tag bolted to the rear cover has a part number on it. The only place where it tells you what these numbers mean is in the Vol.6 Turbo service manual. My book is over at a workshop at the moment so I can't check but one of the early LSD numbers is 92029317, which is correct for my red wagon.

03-02-11, 17:59 GMT+10#104 Good thread, I remember when they were new and the holden car yards had VLs lined up, I bought a sky blue VL excec myself in '91, back then they were the future compared to VK 202.

That's the list. Thanks Dan.
Is there more at the bottom or over the page though ? Pretty sure there was an early and late LSD for both sedan and wagon. Just so xctmnt8 doesn't panic when he doesn't see his part numbers on the list.

You're right. The VH 202 daily I have feels a bit like an old tractor as far as the engine goes, and it's only got 149,000km's on it. Strangely though it's a far more comfortable, solid car to drive than any VL I've driven.
If only I knew then what I know now. Anyone got a time machine ?

It was $4500 a year ago out of Newcastle. It was originally listed on Ebay but I made the car dealer an offer, he pulled it and I had it shipped over.
It's had a few repairs over the years (as most would have) but it's scrubbing up okay. Shame I couldn't have talked to the old bloke about it before he died. It must have been a bit special for him to have kept it since ordering it new in Feb 1987.
I'll post up more pics when I get all the outside plastic back on.

13-02-11, 11:52 GMT+10#110 i love reading stories like this, as a teen it really puts into perspective what things mean to people, and to me your one of very very few people; able to resist the urge to modify it and 'rape' the car,you kept it immaculate! your a true vl turbo enthusiast
what did you use to clean that bay!? i cant beleive how much better it is, with only buying what i can see the over flow and p.s reservoir

14-02-11, 08:41 GMT+10#111 Thanks for that. I don't really know why it escaped the modifying thing. Even at 22 I figured there was always someone faster out there so why bother. I wanted it reliable and not sitting too low as it was doing a lot of interstate trips at the time. Still kicking myself over a few things that I did do to it over the years though.
The engine bay was really only cleaned with Nifti (Spray & Wipe type stuff), water in a squirty bottle to rinse down the harder to reach area's, plenty of rags and sometimes a soft brush. Painted bits were all cut and polished and plastic polish for the plastic parts. The two white bottles and headlights were all that was replaced and some aerosol tyre shine to freshen up the hoses.
It has never really had any major work go on under there so everything was basically preserved under 20 years of gunk I guess.

It'd actually be kind of funny to see the car back on them. Let me know if you ever find them.
They weren't a factory option, just something the dealer had on another car at the time. A lot of standard VL's were optioned up with Calais, HDT, or ROH/Cheviot wheels at the time by dealers.
