Sounds like a Monday car. Just a screw-up in the stamping as the VL8V part was constant throughout the whole VL series.
I don't know how the option plates were stamped but someone either keyed the codes in the wrong way around if it was computerised back then, or they manually screwed it up and either didn't pick it up or couldn't be bothered.
You didn't happen to grab any other details on it for the register did you ?

24-02-07, 09:56 GMT+10#109 Looks quite straight Coran, even down to the original cobra alarm and with the new paint it should come up a treat. Great buy.
Almost looks like my engine bay, even down to the orangey/red repainted rocker cover !
Thanks for the pics. Another one added to the list.

Thanks for that one. He's had it for sale for a while now, at least since last November. Still only the second blue turbo I've got listed.

14-07-07, 22:14 GMT+10#112 Totals finally updated in the first post.
Bit of a pattern appearing. Looks like there were four batches built.
275XXX & early 276XXX numbered cars were built in Feb '88 in a Red batch.
Followed by 276XXX numbered cars built in Feb '88 in Blue.
Then 277XXX, 278XXX & 279XXX numbered cars in red in March '88.
Finally, a last blue batch in March '88 numbered in the 280XXX series.
Going by the spread of numbers they weren't sequential and were just slotted into the standard VL production run. Closest numbers I've found so far were 13 cars apart.
Still require numbers from Tonken & dvs wgn if you still have the cars.
Also need number and engine type from wagon01 and I can add another one to the list.

Post away. Probably only interested in the blue and red ones though for this thread. All the other coloured wagons could have been HDT built cars or just mockups.

16-07-07, 10:47 GMT+10#116 Thanks for that. I'll update it now.
I'm pretty impressed with finding 37 out of the 200 so far. Thanks everyone.
Early days yet as far as numbers go but it's looking more like total production was 75 V8's, 75 n/a's and 50 turbo's.
I do know of at least two of the 37 though that won't be registered again. One blue V8 that had a massive punch in the side up for auction at a Pickles yard in Sydney and my new red n/a that will be parted out.

11-10-07, 10:16 GMT+10#120 I know it's not 1988 but as it'll have been 20 years since the last factory Calais wagon when this one is released I figured this deserved a run.
Worst case a 6.0 Calais V wagon is on next years shopping list, providing HSV don't do a Senator version in the mean time.
I'm in love.....
