Ummm id be thinking that the rear discs where added along somewhere in its 16 odd year life span and i doubt that they are hard to add 8)

Perhaps it was just an option.

Just 2 clear a few things up. As ive converted a few vls in the past, but by know means trying to be a knowall. All Sl and Execs have the analogue clock dash. If they have the tacho dash someones probably added it somewhere along the line as its not hard 2 do. Not all Berlinas had the Electric mirrors and Tacho dash either especially the early 86 ones but the electrics were an option. And there was a "Power Pack" option that holden offered. There was a Limited Edition in the Sl and Berlinas too i think. Yeah and like some of the earlier people said theres not much diff between an sl and exec so all Exec's have the "Sl commodore" badge on the dash. Even if it is an Executive. The disc brake rear ends only came out on turbo and v8 models. And all Calais had them but the LSD was optional. The "jesus handles" are called grab handles also. The black door handles were neither base model nor berlina/calais they depended on body color. But all Berlina/Calais had the blacked out door frames.

The black handles were actually a Series 1/2 change. Cars made around the changeover time can sometimes be series 2 and have silver, but all series 2 cars have black handles after a month or so of the changeover to series 2 ..

Fair enough u learn somethin new every day. Do u know this 4 sure cos my vl was made 8/87 and has the black door handles but i didnt think there were series 2's unless of course it was a calais. Cos i know the diff betwen the series 1 and 2 berlina and calais interiers and thought they only used S1 and S2 names in the 88 models?

Mines a september '87 exec and is series 2 and has black handles, and from both research of my own, and calaisturbo.com's s1/2 changes list, the handles are indeed series related. To my knowledge it affected all models. But it appears for a few months around the changeover, holden just used up whatever chrome ones they had left. Also perhaps some cars have had theyr changed in theyr life. I know a few friends who have changed theyr handles to suit theyr look ..
