A guy I know is trying to import a old Ford from over there, I think its better to try and find out if you can get it registered here and all as I would hate for someone to pay for it then it land and then find out you can't register it for road use ! Also, I think (correct me if I'm wrong), That they can only do a certain amount of km's per year ?

For the last ten years it has been anything over $750 dollars. After that I get them to send over on two parcels to break up the cost.(Just imported a large brake package)And you get them to send it a couple of days apart. If it is a car you pay GST on the total cost of car shipping and insurance. And then do not forget you pay 10% GST for the item over there. But you can claim that back(from over there)Make sure you are honest as if they find out they will charge you top dollar or even worse take it from you.And remember import duty is another thing.

If it is old enough the 20 year rule applies,And there is not limit on the kays,But you are correct pays to check up if it can be imported,Main thing is proof you own it,And the the former owner has signed it over to you has de-registered it over there(you need that paperwork)
Happy birthday guys!

But wouldn't the seller over there charge you for their GST anyway? I'm after info on all this too as I'm looking to import a certain lump of metal.
