The RB30 has been a great engine & is well known for it's limitless capabilities especially when modified. That's why Holden used it. Also like the VZ I own. It has the LS2 Chev motor in it because it works & is well known for it's limitless capabilities. Ford. I don't know. Said on many forums. Ever since I have had the vehicle it has had a rough idle when cold started. The dealer has loaded numerous ECU updates with no effect (Excluding the faulty update that sent the gearbox into limp home mode & the turbo boost into the stratosphere). Repeated services and subsequent Tune ups have also failed to fix the problem. The dealership made a serious attempt to resolve the issue by keeping the vehicle for ~ 4-5 days whilst performing repeated cold starts on the engine with an analyser hooked up to it. The dealer then advised that the rough idle was caused by a faulty camshaft casting & replaced one. I then questioned them regarding the possibility that metal fillings had now spread throughout the engine they were unable to give any assurance that this hadnt occurred. I will state that the new camshaft lessened the problem but didnt resolve it & when I subsequently spoke to a mechanic @ Ford dealership, he advised that they had 3 XR6s in the shop receiving new camshafts at that point in time. Anyways that all been said. Ford motor in a Holden, soooooo wrong. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Anyways that all been said. Ford motor in a Holden, soooooo wrong. As we modify quite a large number of XR6 Turbo's and have probably amoung the few most powerful in the country under our belt, along with countless tough streeters, I'm highly surprised at your problems with the idle quality of the car. I hate ford as a company, at least my local delaer anyway, considering I spent over 50k on a brand new FPV and in my 20's, and my first brand new car at that, you'd expect that they'd treat you with some respect and after sales service, but I may as well have purchased a $1500 hyundai excel for their sheer lack of the above. However the only thing I can fault on the car is the annoying as hell dash rattle, idle and general driveability are amazing. We have made 750rwhp on a stock motor with nothing but head studs thru a 6 speed auto on pump fuel, engine did a few 1000 k's in this guise as well, still no failure, and the engine work to make 1000 flywheel hp is so marginal, we have made 1097rwhp with an atomic 698 motor, hypertune intake manifold and GTX42, and 986rwhp thru a big convertered C4 FG with completely stock head with cams and springs, and atomic 698 bottom end. You just can't kill them and not thru lack of trying. I wish people would be a little more open minded, both ford and holden make good products, if you want to get all purist and sh1t both the RB30 and LS1 weren't designed or built in Australia anyway, but who gives a toss, they are fantastic motors with huge aftermarket potential. Build what suits you and enjoy it Oh, and as far as conversions go, I haven't heard about a VL with one yet, but I have recently done manifolds for 2 R33 skylines with a BA motor 6BOOST Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Love it or hate it, the Barra is an awesome engine. Much like the RB30 during its early inception, its been an engine that hasn't been accepted by the wider community but make no mistake about it, it is a recipe for a powerhouse as was the RB30 in the early days. We hear about all these stories of the engines being unreliable but we also hear the ones pulling phenominal power figures without being opened up, much like the 2JZ. What's not to love about it? A big displacement twin cam inline 6 that is readily available with a huge aftermarket range of products. Once the community got over the fact the VL was powered by a foreign engine they realised just how good and powerful the car, engine mainly really was. I guess its still early days to realise just how far and how good these engines are but time will tell. 6Boost how's the Barra in terms of strength and power compared with a 2JZ?

Hmmm, they make more power pound for pound, and mod for mod, however the 2J is superior for strengthin stock form, probably similar in strength in mildly modified form, and stronger and highly modifed form, altho is yet to be proven with the BA engine. I think with how squat and long the BA engine is, and the lack of a deep pan rail for added strength, the engine will literally twist itself in half at levels past 1500hp. Ask us is 12 months 6BOOST Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
