25-01-06, 23:42 GMT+10#140 While I have no interest in sizing up dics with anyone in this pissing contest(I have a really small penis) I will state a few facts for the less mechanically inclined.
This is a 1JZ, not a 2JZ, the difference in power would amount to 50odd rwhp at least between the 2 for any given boost pressure. The higher the boost, the bigger the gap. No 1JZ or 2JZ is indestuctable. You talk about them like 800rwhp is a walk in the park on stock unopened engines. Its not. There is no one in australia making 800rwhp from a stock bottom end 2J. Of the ones that sub zero built that did, they had head studs, head gasket, intake manifolds, cams, with a stock short block. They ran C16 fuel, and 45+psi of boost. How f ucking long do you think an engine will last with 45+psi of boost?? Probably around 1000-2000k's tops, depending on hwo nice you are to it.
How long do you think a stock 1JZ would last with 500rwhp?? I'd say if given a thrashing, around 3000-5000k's tops, rebuilt or not. Neither have forged bottom ends, they have cast pistons and the same style of rod forging that any other rod is, yes they are better engineered than most, yes I would personally pick one over an RB, but take some time to understand the statements you are making ad realise that 800rwhp is and never will be easy, nor reliable.
If you'd like to compare to our US buddies, their dynojet dyno's read far higher. a 700rwhp car over there would make about 620rwhp on our aussie DD dyno's. Added to which 700rwhp is commonly accepted in us circes to be about the reliable limit of a stock short block assembly, given limited street miles and much pampering.
As for your power taget of high 400's on lowish boost, even with cams and head work, I'd say your going to need around 30-32psi of boost to make 480-500rwhp through an auto from you 1JZ, but please do feel free to keep us informed when you get it tuned, I would be more than happy than eat my words if I'm wrong. As far as saying you weren't happy with Matts tune, did you contact him about this issue?? As knowing matt well, I'm sure he would have been more than happy to fix any of your problems had you taken them up with him. I also believe your tune was only to be one to get you going, and the car to be bought back at a later date to be finished with more boost, probably a good indication of not being perfect.
To tuning Mircotechs, well, as far as I know, his preference of computer goes Autronic, Motec, Microtech. He pretty much doesn't like most others. He has told me numerous times the only computer he;d use himself is an autronic or microtech. And from the amount out there, I'd say they are 60+% of his business. I highly dount anyone fully erased his tune, even if it was total sh1t, no tuner with half a brain would want to start from scratch, possibly more like they charged your mate to fully retie it, and only touched it up so they spent little time and made more $$, but I'm sure most shops would be more respectable than that hey......
Its interesting to note that the only people defending your actions are the ones who haven't had a car on the road for more than what, 2 weeks, and all the ones you have been sh1t fighting with have finished and raced their cars, sometimes numerous times, and most have had matt tune their cars, Colins 3 times, grants 2 or 3 times, maxpsi a few times, and no bad word said.
At the end of the day, good luck with the project, my advise in future would be either start with some more realistic or understandable goals, or keep them under your hat so that when the car is done, if it doesn't live up to "high 400rwhp" then you have no one to rag you out. Keep us posted on the results, as more than anything, at least you can rub it in our faces, and its good to see how far you've got it so quickly, which is a very big credit to yourself an pigsy.
