Im also having mayjor dramas pulling my barrel out... if anyone's got any info on how i remove this thing it would be a great help! It almost looks like a factory fitted item, i cant see there being anyway of removing it besides a grinder! after trying to just get the barrel out i decided id just replace the whole column, but the metal surrounding doesn't even allow me to undo the wires! My VL (with metal surround) (underneath) Normal Column Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Only way I found to remove it was to cut slots in the dome headed screws (they look like big rivets but are actually pk screws) for a screwdriver and get them out that way. The thing is then loosely interlocked but it will wangle off after that. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
