I had to change J to H for it to work.
For the letter specifying the year refers to model year and it does not line up with the calender year. I believe that Oct-Sep is how the model year works.

304's started midway through the VK series in order to homologate the Commodore for International Group A racing in the under 5L category where they scored a nice weight saving for losing 4 cubic inches.
Corsa
on my rego papers it says my cars year is 1987 and yet on the vin calculator it says
Your car is a Holden Calais Sedan
From the factory it was equipped with the Turbocharged Nissan 3L RB30ET producing 150kw at the flywheel.
It was produced in 1988 at the Adelaide plant with a serial number of 57895
does that just mean that the cars body was made in 1987 but it didnt leave the factory till 1988?
Your car is a Holden Berlina Sedan
From the factory it was equipped with the Non-Turbo Nissan RB30E producing 114kw at the flywheel.
It was produced in 1988 at the Adelaide plant with a serial number of 58704
Actually built in September '87, but I guess that must be the month where they regard it as next years model. Had Series 1 Seats too, but a Series 2 block!!

It was produced in 1987 at the Adelaide plant with a serial number of 23297
Well I was supprised to learn my car was a factory calais. Something the previous owner wasnt sure on. But a non turbo version & previously automatic.
But it does have 747 in the vin number Oh yea.
Quick suggestion, don't know what the logistics would be though...
Would it be possible for guys who have had there cars stolen to upload their VIN numbers to this application? If someone then searches a car that has been flagged 'stolen', the searchers details are sent to a moderator that can pass details on to the appropriate people....? Just a thought.

This is really strange... on my compliance plate it said its a 1987 model...?
As stated numerous times, if the car was built from about September-December of one year, it is called the following years model. So say Sep '87 will be called an 88 year model.

But anyway, i have a sticker on inside of the drivers door frame that says something along the lines of
86 VL COMMODORE
FIELD TEST
Then It has a number
and "DO NOT REMOVE"
i was wondering if this is on every VL (i've checked on a couple of mates' cars and they dont have it and i was wondering if it was because they werent ever put there, or because they have simply fallen off.

It means that the car had to get taken back to the factory due to a fault... There is a thread on it somewhere, I can't remember where but...
I've seen a VL with like 3 of them on it LOL, talk about a lemon straight out of the factory
