28-08-06, 11:57 GMT+10#121 I had a m8 who done this type of CAI mod on his VL.
Instead he took the air filter out of the air box, ran similar piping thru the botom of his air box, and had a pod mounted in his front bar.
At 150 - 200 km/h he had full-on flames out his xzorst.

that's totally fully sick mate, but your misleading people if you believe the cai was the main attributing factor in causing the exhaust flame!!

You can get these rubber pipes from a VN induction system any wreckers will have em (Connects to pod) i can use it with airbox's aswell

13-04-07, 12:06 GMT+10#129 Works great! Not real easy to cut through the wheel arch though, thats the hard part. You also have to cut the different lenghts of PVC to the right length before you get the angles right. Takes a bit of trial and error.
This was done on autospeed but great post man. Cheers

13-04-07, 21:44 GMT+10#130 Thanks for the comments guys. I did this mod over 6 years ago. I wrote this article exactly 3 years ago. The one on autospeed was done using a different type of tubing. A flexible type I think. I done mine about the same time as they done theirs.
Yeah the cutting of the gaurd is the hardest bit. If you have access to a plasma cutter or some type of air tools the job would be a lot easier.

27-07-07, 18:08 GMT+10#131 I just thought i'd add my 2 cents...
This is my intake, it's slightly modified from a VR-VP aftermarket CAI (i think you can actually buy these from holden).
It will give you the same power increase as cutting through the metal, You don't ever run the risk of sucking water (or wetting your filter) when u hit a large puddle and of course the most important difference...
It's completely legal, I registered my car with this on there

Cold Air Intakes work for any car. On some cars there is minimal change in power but by no means is it ever a negative effect. Turbo cars particularly like cold air. Yes you can do a cold air intake. Its easy and you will only benefit from this. Just make sure you blank off the hole where the original snorkel was so that only air from outside of engine bay is inhaled by your engine.

the temperature gauge tells you the temperature of the coolent in the motor, NOT the air intake.

OK SORRY IM NEW TO THIS WHOLE THING ! so it gives cooler air , so what does it actually cool or does it all cool ? sorry for bieng a little bit slow , the reason why i ask is that everyone in these threads are saying they like cooler air so why ...... i just like to no more info if you can help

05-01-08, 01:12 GMT+10#137 Cool air is more dense than hot air. You get better stronger combustion inside your cylinders ie more bang for your buck so to speak. Hence why we all put intercoolers on so as to cool the air after the turbo has heated it.
Do a search on this forum and on the web in general if you want to know the basics. There is a plethora of information out there. But hey, if some of us can help, then I guess we will try. But maybe make a new thread instead of putting questions inside tech articles....

05-01-08, 21:30 GMT+10#138 Did this on my turbo about 4 years ago. Just used the 4" pvc pipe a 90 degree bend, some silicone and a cable tie. Instantly noticed that it revved muched quicker (better throttle response) and it stopped the fuel evaporation on really hot days. This would have to be one of the best $$ versus kw gains that you could do on a standard vl tubo. I still only use the standard air filter as I reckon (read it somewhere and believe it) that it is the least restrictive type of filter. Your motor will thank you for doing it. I've had no problems with my standard paper filter either, though, as suggested earlier, it might be a good idea to clean it and the box regularly.
