aus880, you're a f*cken wally mate. You and ppl like you really sh*t me off. There really is only one other type of F*CKWIT like you, and that would be the nice police officer who argues the same lame ass things as you, and then fines/canaries you for it.
Go become a cop and join ppl like you and stop wasting our time.
dude chill hey ..... we're mucking around ....
Well, this is the first thread of this forum I have read, Damn, a little bit of an argument their! Anyhow I was just thinking Id add my own little bit of talk.
First of as far as I know the technical term for the noise is "surge" and that's what the book Im about to quote call's it...
"Compressor "surge" when the turbocharger is trying to pump and the charge has no where to go, nowhere to go means the throttle was slammed shut and the compressor wheal is running at high rpm. Shifting gears is such a situation. The compressor wheel cannot keep pumping against a closed throttle plate for very long before the pressure between the compressor wheel and closed throttle plate exceeds the compressors ability to keep packing it in" (if you have ever looked at a turbo compressor map (http://64.225.76.178/catalog/compmaps/t66.gi) on the left hand side you will see a sweeping line, this is called the surge line/limit, when the conditions are correct the turbo surges, that is flow reverses, anyway, back to the quote) "Then the compressed are literally pops backwards, out through the compressor (the compressor wheel did not reverse) as soon as the pressure drops enough for the compressor to pump again it slams the air column back into the system, where it repeats the pop-back-out routine." It is the cycling of this event that creates our "cher cher cher" noise. Intercoolers making more noise? it's seems to me that the reason that vlt's with large intercoolers make more noise is because eachh time the compressor surger their is a larger amount of charger being ejected through the turbo.
I myself don't mind the noise, it's kind of like having the "look at me" bov sound without the wank factor.
Just my opinion

HA mine flutters even at 5-20VAC, and i have a series 6 rx7 plumb back bov and it still does it.

then obviously your boost guage reads from after the throttle plate! where there is a vacume while surge occurs, and if the bov fails to fully prevent it then it musn't flow enoght air.
When I put my cooler on, it started making the noise on LESS BOOST than it was on without the cooler!
Now with adding the cooler, and all the extra piping, that would create less pressure? correct?? why do I get the noise then???
it probably isn't making the noise on less bost, it's just that with the larger intake volume it's noisier, and you can start to hear it when backing of from as little as 1psi.
Posible?
Oh well at least we know tha you know how to read. You can just go back to reading then. Read a Dictionary, atlas ect and then you'll be the smartest person in the world
You should go onto Who wants to be a millionaire and be the first person top go all the way......
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
Rockysilvia,
The VLTs need an intercooler to get the loud flutter sound. Maybe you should get in front of a VLT and have your ears ready.
Because the Intercooler provides the compressed air a confined medium in which it can only travel, it travels in the opposite direction back crashing through turbine out of the POD filter hence making the noise.
On most parts you are right. do you know about the compressor surge noise/device ?
i too will say its the intercooler, i had just a pod on my vlt and the noise was nothing close to what it was when i fitted my intercooler also maybe the vl flutter woorks differently to other cars cause if you notice theres not 1 other car that makes the flutter as distinct as the vl no skylines or what not, so yeah i mean you can tell a vl coming from a mile away with the flutter over any other car. other imports do have a flutter but nothing as load or clsoe to what the vlt puts out i can see why people love hearing the noise i know i do.
my supra makes a tiny flutter sounds with just a cooler and no bov (stock bov blocked off and stock side mount intercooler) you can bearly hear it my front mount will be fitted in the next couple of weeks but i can assure you it will not come close to the vl flutter. the vl flutter is very unique
