19-09-03, 09:37 GMT+10#121 AFAIK, the calais was the only model that has silver door handles in series 1, as my parents have a september 86 berlina, this has black handles, but as 87VL said, it may be body colour dependant, as thier berlina was the dark blue, maybe it was an option? i dont know, but i know that ive only ever seen Calais with the silver handles.
Maybe we should have everybody state thier series(and build date), model, body colour and door handle colour
ill start
series 2 (7/87), Exec, Beige, Black,
Series 2 (10/87), Exec, White, Black,
Series 1 (9/86), Berlina, Dark Blue, Black

21-09-03, 01:51 GMT+10#123 Calaisturbo.com has a list of the major calais changes .. build date generally sets it .. it was mid 1987 it changed over .. all '86 are definitly series 1, and all '88 are definitly series 2 .. mines september 87 and is series 2, i think it was july/august it changed over? (your build date is under neat your dash cluster, stamped onto the body frame . .

21-09-03, 03:37 GMT+10#124 Well what is the go with color coding bumpers and the door strips. My car is an exec with color coded bumbers and door strips.
Also whats the go with boot colours. I have heard some cars came with black paint on the inside of the boot.

21-09-03, 13:20 GMT+10#125 Colour coded bumpers was a factory option .. looks great on some colours, not on others .. (my colour for example, would look better with silver bumpers) .. red, blue and white usually had matched bumpers, i think?
I've not seen a black inside of a bootlid .. but I guess anything is possible .. Maybe been done aftermarket tho? I'd guess if someone filled the bootlid for audio purposes, they might paint it .. A lot of coded bumpers are also done aftermarket as it often looks better

22-09-03, 01:49 GMT+10#126 Yeah i agree with u there Lord-Data on some colors being better coded than others, especially the HDT's and of course the Walkie. And definitely the series 200 package which were body color and Sandalwood brown. However the 86,87,88 Exterior and Interior changes pdf file on Home Of The Vl Turbo site lists all the trim combination codes etc. check it out.
IJD: My boot is black everywhere inside to. I think some people install sound gear in the boot and spray sound deadener on the boot floor and finish the rest off with a $10 dolar can of black paint to match it all up or whatever.

22-09-03, 09:09 GMT+10#127 i think it depends on model type and body colour also(boot colour), because mine is the body colour(beige) my parents berlina is dark blue with black boot(owned since new) and my friends white exec has a black boot.
also my body colour(biege) looks terrible colour coded, it looks better with the calais silver bumpers, where as my parents and friends cars look fantastic colour coded.

23-09-03, 17:02 GMT+10#129 yeah, thats cool, its near imposible to now the history of a car unless youve owned it since new, so it quite possibly could have been resprayed, i know our berlina has, but that was exterior only, i know my exec has, at some point in time.

07-12-03, 22:24 GMT+10#133 late 88 model SL's also had the grip handles. And also i just noticed a way to tell the difference between a series 1 and 2 Exec in the light grey color:
the centre air vents above the radio and AC/heater controls have a grey surround as compatred to sereis 1's which have black surround. i assume this would be 4 all dash colors also...
