Bumping this thread back up if probably dangerous but it has to be done. I have been looking at getting a bike for a while now and have around 5 - 6k to lash out. The blokes that i will end up riding with primarily do trails riding, but i want the ability to smash around on a motocross track and head up to Lancelin ( in WA ) for some dune goodness. The bikes i have been looking at primarily have been the YZ450F, CR450F and YZ250. now they are clearly not trails riding bikes, but they can be set up with out too much difficulty. I have ridden 2 strokes and 4 strokes alike, and i both are amazing fun. I am more that likely leaning toward an 07 YZ450f as i can get into one for a decent price as its a good mates. The thing that has me worried is the fact that the header pipe glows bright red after say 1 minute idling, i have read up about this and apparently its normal :/ ...... it idles perfectly but when i go to twist the throttle it will sometimes stall. other times it wont and it will rev freely, but when it does the occasional backfire occurs and sparks fly out the end of the exhaust. Now i was putting it down to overfueling due to it sitting there idling for a while, others who have experienced all of these symptoms say it could be a leak in the exhaust, bad fuel due to sitting for a while, bad jetting causing lean mixture etc. It had a top end rebuild roughly 10 hours ago so it should be running pretty well. am i stressing over nothing or should i just walk away and look elsewhere? Cheers Christian

250f's are fun for the trails i reckon. much lighter than a 450 but still have that even wide powerband from bottom to mid range. otherwise id say a 250 2 stroke over the 450. or you could go all out and get a KTM 300-XCW On another note. Cleaned up the whip today, fresh oil & oil filter, air filter and bit of armor all Hoping to get her into the shop next Saturday to get it rec reg spec and also new chain and sprocket. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

ended up finding an 2008 RM250. Had been sitting up for the last year or so, and it wasnt starting. the bloke had chucked in a new spark plug and drained the fuel from the tank and put new fuel in, but still nothing. So i made the bloke an offer and he accepted. Got the bike home and the next day i drained the fuel out of the float bowl (which he hadn't done) 3rd kick it started. Pretty stoked as i got it for decent price due to the fact he couldn't get it going. Love the smell too haahhahaha

Yeah im pretty keen pretty sure that place is like $55 a day to ride at.....also it seems to have the most amount of straight aways i have ever seen on a track. most of the jumps there seem like table tops or jumps to flat :/ could still be a worth a check...

Went for a ride at a mates 2500 acre property today, the yz is running well and still no dents in the pipe. I took the buggy as well but a mate managed to totally screw the rear suspension after a hard landing. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
