It'd be great if you could get some more details or pics of it. Maybe leave a note pointing the owner to this thread/site.

23-01-08, 14:34 GMT+10#143 Finally added the details of my VL Calais Turbo Wagon. I've owned it for nearly four years now and am apparently the third owner. It's still nearly stock (3" exhaust and Strengthened, Shift Kitted Auto With 3000 rpm Stall) but will get a front mount fitted in the next couple of weeks and a new engine within the next few months (quite probably the one from LAGWGN) that will be making a ****load more power.
It had the sunroof option box ticked when bought new (shame it didn't get the LSD diff one ticked as well/instead) and I'd be curious to see if anyone knew how many of the Calais Wagons left the factory with a sunroof.
Model - VL8VL35-A9Y
Body No. - 277963-A
Trim - 15I
Paint - 2F 020-D
Built - MAR 88
Eng. - LW5
Trans. - MS1
Axle - GM 3
I'd love to hear from anyone else that has a Calais Turbo Wagon from WA as well. I'll start a thread soon detailing the history (under my ownership at least) of my pride and joy.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Thanks Graeme. That's perfect. Another turbo for the list.
There are two other CT members who have Calais turbo wagons on here so you may get a couple of PM's. In fact, of the four Calais wagons I have down in WA so far, at least three of them are turbo's, including yours.
Yours is also the only Calais wagon I have listed so far with a factory sun roof.

Thaks for keeping an eye out. Both are relisted. The red one actually looks really nice. It's an ex-Qld country car that was advertised early last year and looks to be everything the seller says it is.
New totals up too. Check the first post on page 1.

why dosent my wagon have rear head rests? ive seen some in there on other cars and i think i can feel brackets in the seat back?
in the back "wagon Part should the walls be carpeted as mine just look the same as my exec wagon?
did any wagons come out with elec boot release like sedans?
pics up soon

Brandons right for the most part.
1. The rear headrests appeared to be an option (probably one of the few options they came with) and the mount brackets are welded in on both the seat backs in my two. The A9Y rear seat back frame was also a different part number to all other VL wagons which would support this. All you'd need is four of those plastic tubes and another pair of front headrests and you're away, but they're a pain to see around in my VH sedan so would be as bad in a wagon.
2. HDT Calais wagons (non-A9Y wagons) got a carpeted rear. All ours got was the standard carpet on the wheel arch and the floor from the Berlina. Rear seat back is grey painted metal and the side panels and panel on the tailgate were grey painted fibreboard. Pretty cheap effort by GMH really.
3. No auto tailgate release unfortunately.

Thanks skid. Sad to hear that, although I'm doing the same to another one at the moment. If you ever come across any pics or even the rego number of it I'd be interested.

No worries mate, I love Calais Wagons and as soon as i have a garage I will be back on the VL scene for sure (my VL Calais sedan got stolen outside my house so no more VL's until I can protect them )

In theory. I haven't peeled back the fabric to really check it out 100%. I'd have a chat to Yeti.
I'm going on the brackets I can feel under the fabric and the fact that the parts book lists the A9Y rear seat back frame as a different number to all the others (that's for just the frame, nothing to do with the fabric), and that it also calls up the same part number for the rear headrests and pins as it does for the front.

04-02-08, 13:23 GMT+10#159 i would of thought you could see some sort of spot welding on the seatback, where the brackets would be?

That's what it feels like, the same C-shaped brackets as the sedan welded into the frame, just never looked under the fabric to be 100% sure.
I should be able to tell you next month with pics as the whole car is getting painted and retrimmed.
