you are, two different numbers, two different things
you made some errors reading/typing the number 8x1966l229142l
but your car's a n/a calais
the number beginning with avl__ _ _ is the chassis number as found on the top of the n/s strut tower

24-12-08, 10:18 GMT+10#148 No match found for luxury level!
No match found for body style level!
No match found for engine type!
No match found for year made!
No match found for plant created in!
woohooo! my car doesn't exist!
found another VL vin calculator on vlturbo.com, comes up with
Division: Holden
Luxury Level: Berlina
Body Shape: Sedan
Engine: RB30E (Non Turbo)
Year: No match for Year
Plant: No match for Plant
Serial #: 04543
Year: ERROR - should be F, G or H
Plant: ERROR - should be J or L and between 1 and 9
so mine comes up with no Year and Plant, because it has MGZ in my VIN code. but it should be G (for 1987) not sure what plant though.

12-02-09, 12:30 GMT+10#155 My uncle has a SL exec wagon, NA 6 cylinder 1988
the vin is 8K19JGL247549L
now the calculator says it's a sedan 304 v8 with 122 kw and a 1987 model!
completely wrong!
go figure! unless the tag has been ripped off and put on the wagon?

12-02-09, 12:52 GMT+10#156 the calculator is correct
if that's the tag details on the car your uncle "owns" then he "owns" a very dodgy car: someone elses most likely
so contact police asap to sort it out
