19-09-08, 13:03 GMT+10#141 Continuing from my earlier pics in this thread, here is my intake modification now complete. As per the pics, I went from a pod attached to only approx 75mm pipe under the guard (ready to inhale a big amount of water from a puddle), back to stock air box with 100mm pipe coming direct from turbo and 100mm pipe being routed from behind bumper.
Intake when I bought the car;
Modified back to standard box by Butler Built Performance Products Carlisle WA;
Underside before ducting complete (only approx 75mm diameter);
Completed underside with 100mm ducting directing cold air to box;
View of the inside of the air box showing the 100mm ducting;
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

15-10-08, 17:07 GMT+10#142 i done this on my vl its a great little mod, but i was wondering do you guys put anything over the end of the pipe near the front bumper or over the top of the pipe in the airbox to stop rocks or big bugs getting in their?
also i didnt put mine right to the front bumper so if cops look they cant see it just sticking their because they have a thing of always pulling me over for checks i left it about 250mm from the front bumper and used 2 cable ties to strengthen the pipe so it wasnt moving around everywhere, is it better to have it right to the front bumper or just fine how i have it

15-10-08, 23:22 GMT+10#143 Don't think it makes much difference how close it is to the front bar. I was going to put some doubled up chicken wire over the front but still haven't done it. Seems to get a bit of grit in the bottom of the air box but other than that i've never had a problem with rocks or anything like that. Did you pull out the mesh from either side of the afm? That reduces a heap of restriction as well.

16-10-08, 01:45 GMT+10#144 As long as the pipe is facing forward, it doesnt make much difference whether its right up to the bumper or sitting back a bit.
No need to put any wire over the pipe from airbox whether it pushed up to bumper or not. Yes you will get a little bit of grit and bugs in the filter and airbox, but that is ok. Every 5,000kms I change my oil and I change my air filter for a new one also. Genuine holden element is perfect. They cost less than $15, I get trade and they cost me about $6 or $7. And when you have the air box open, just vacuum the excess grit and sand in the bottom of box. I have had this sort of cold air intake in my vl's for 12 years. I live in the country and I drive to the drags and home on country and city roads and I have never had an issue with any bugs or rocks or stones getting past air filter.
If you still have air flow meter (afm), I would leave the mesh on it as not alot is gained by removing it (there is some gain though). But if you have afm still and you are wanting more power, then best thing to do is to go to aftermarket ecu and get rid of the afm all together because it has a small diameter, and its a restriction in itself.

17-10-08, 18:12 GMT+10#145 i took one side of the mesh of the afm (opposite to airbox side) is it worth it to take both of or leave the one next to airbox on

Did you read my post directly above?
Its only a nominal gain. They are there to protect the afm as it is a delicate instrument vital to the stock computer. If you are wanting more power, there are many other ways to go about it.
But in the end, if you want to take off both afm mesh filters then do so. Its up to you in the end

sorry mate, my internet is ****, sometimes it dont load like half the posts for some reason then i answer the one im looking at and then i refresh it and the topic has like 2 pages, but yeh iv done nearly every mod except chip, im getting another head and thats basically it until i can get my open license and bolt on a turbo :S but i wasnt planning on taking both pieces of mesh of the AFM, i keep the one that connects to the airbox on to stop most of the **** goin through, and take the opposite side off.
