So the fuel lines in the boot are finally done, all flared and fitted. Final configuration is thus: VL is now back at Sure Shift to get the transmission lines made up and the final checks on the transmission done. More detailed photo's of the fuel system, underneath the boot and all will come once I get the car back. Old TRB30 plates were officially removed from the VL today. New numberplates are registered with DOT and will be on the VL shortly. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

To be legal, yeah the filler needs to be external before the engineer will sign off on it. Car is currently at gearbox shop getting cooler lines made up. Will be home tomorrow night. Once I mount the new number plates I'll reveal them so stay tuned! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Finally found a bit of time to do a few hours of work tonight. Got the P/S lines all hooked up, Intake Manifold is bolted down properly, Fuel Line is run from front to back of the car, the fuel hoses from the fuel line to the fuel rail was made and put on, and the fuel lines underneath the boot for the lift pump, fuel filter, and feed lines. Spark Plugs were all tightened up and the heat shields put on the plug leads. Went to test the fuel system and got a leak from the check valves - some idiot (read: me) forgot to put some o-ring in there where it goes into the fuel block. So the pumps and lines all had to come out to get to it. The rest seems to be ok, no leaks as yet, but havent presurised it yet. Pic of underneath the boot. Theres another couple of lines above the resonator. Will try get some undercar photo's soon of the new fuel line run all the way forward and the tailshaft, painted exhaust, trans lines etc. And finally a quick photo of some of the heat shields on the leads. Next up will be attepmting to get some of the wiring out of the way so its close to getting the engine turned over for the first time. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Went to finalise the wiring loom last night. Got most things hooked up in the loom like the plugs to the standard VL body loom, OBD connector, etc. Tonight I went to trial fit the loom. Passed the engine loom through a hole in the firewall. I will end up with a HD30 (47pin) connector here, but until i've checked the engine runs fine, I won't cut the loom up to fit it. This means a really hard time passing connectors through the firewall without damaging the wires... Takes a while. Passenger side sort of routed and connected up to all the sensors/injectors. The loom will need a bit extra on this side to cope, but i'll need to get up under the dash to the other side of the above mentioned hole to release a bit more length out. The woes of custom wiring. And then I went to do the drivers side.... and ran into issues with the Crank Sensor.. i've got heat shielding on the wiring goes down here as the pipes are close - but they are too close to get my hands in to plug it in... i'm going to need some really long needle nose pliers or something to be able to push this plug on. If anyone has idea's - please let me know. It's going to be an absolute prick to unplug to finalise the wiring loom as stated above. This is my new found hate for wiring this engine.... not looking forward to this. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Update for tonight - finalised the fuel system. Everything hooked up and pressurised the system up to 70psi. Found a pin hole leak where the AN fitting was welded to the fuel rail - so will need to have that fixed up on Saturday morning. New numberplates are on the car. Tried taking a pic in the dark - but the plates reflect too much with the flash and can't get a good pic - so you will all have to wait until I get day shot to reveal the plates Also got the Transmission Cooler finally all hooked up and tight. Currently aiming to start the VL on Saturday afternoon. Can't wait!!!! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Hey mate, sweet VL, I reckon this car is bloody awesome. In regards to your Crank Sensor, how hard is it to remove the sensor itself? Might sound stupid, but if you can get the sensor out, make up a short length of harness, plug that into the sensor, re-install the sensor, then plug it into the wiring loom. Good luck with it!

Removing the sensor itself would be harder than getting in there to plug it in... Got myself some long long needle nose pliers.... will see how I go tomorrow with them. Wired up the fuel pumps, fuel level sender, and installed new battery wires both positive and negative from the battery in the boot all the way forward. Was too busy to get any photo's. Car is almost there... hoping to start the car tomorrow afternoon.

Hey Insane, great progress. I would be taking what Hillerus has said here and maybe adapt it, definitely make up an "extension" harness to go onto that CAS. You wouldn't need to remove the sensor, but it will save you the issues later on when having to remove for sleeving / final fitment etc. You could sleeve the short extension now before fitting, then hopefully you only have to get that clip on once and never remove it from the CAS just from the plug further up Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Wow... what a day. Progress for today: - Picked up 10L of gearbox oil.. Running Redline Racing ATF. At $26 per L its an expensive gearbox fill! - Got the front tyres changed as the old ones were stuffed - Got the fuel rail re-welded as there was a leak when I previously pressurised the fuel system - Got the final parts of the wiring all hooked up. The wiring loom itself isn't taped up neatly yet, its just in its tempory state while I check to make sure everything works right. - Added all the fluids to the engine to find 2 leaks. - Replaced the radiator as it seems I obtained a hole in it somewhere along the way of the car being off the road - Spent 3 hours tightening up a power steering line on the rack as I had to move the exhaust / extractors, lift the engine up, and pull the rack back to be able to access it. Its really tight down there! - Put the air filter on - Plugged the ECU in - 1/2 filled the tank with e85 Then the car was finally ready to give it a kick and see what happened. ECU only has a standard VY Manual tune in it - but should at least idle a bit. Turned the key and.... nothing. No pumps priming. 2 hours later - tracked the problem to be that.. and this is an important point for anyone doing this conversion - The VL ECU triggers the Fuel Pump relay by grounding through the ECU. - The LS1 ECU triggers the Fuel Pump relay by +12v. A quick rewire of the relay and the pumps were now priming by signal from the ECU. So gave the car a kick in the guts and...... It Starts! And Runs! but only for about 1 - 2 seconds and then stalls. Tuner will be round tomorrow morning to get it all up and running good. Got a chance to get some day time pics of the new number plates Video of the first start up will be coming... So happy to get it to this point!!!!! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Assuming its a stock ecu that will be the vats kicking in killing the motor after 2 seconds, congrats on firing it up

Yep - was the VATS... Tuner came round this morning and took him all of 5 seconds to remove it. VL Starts and Idles along nicely now. Fuel Pressure set, idles along. Tuner had to leave at lunch time and will be back mid-week to get a basic running in tune done. Video of the VL Idling here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-FAwyjpC1A (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-FAwyjpC1A)

Yeah. Mafless. ---------- Post added 23-09-12 at 21:42 ---------- Oh... also forgot to add this pic. Dash now displays what gear the gearbox is in. Will show P, R, N, D, 2, 1.... Since I have the ratchet shifter - thought this was best so I knew what gear it's in. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
