So it looks like im going down this route now . Anyone work out how much to move the rack over so you don't have to swap the starter over ? Can you use the standard headers to get through rego etc ? Is engineering necessary ? Seen a bloke on st comm forum got his vk registered without engineering . It apparently falls under a vsi rule where you can fit an engine that's not bigger than 15% of the biggest engine avail for that model . Can anyone confirm this ?

VL's never came with LS engines in them... as such - engineering is a must. At least in QLD it is.

Was also told that moving the rack is a big no no . has anyone done this and got it passed by an engineer . what radiator are people using with this conversion? And what should i do with the belt if i take off the a/c & power steer pump ?

Im now changing to manual rack but trying to find an intermediate shaft is a nightmare!! As for radiator, vl v8 is what most people are using. ---------- Post added 21-03-12 at 21:02 ---------- By running a turbo its easier to keep the powersteering...... i think. lol

I'm just using a 6cyl radiator with twin AU thermo's. With the belt you will have to run a custom size belt that's all.

FWIW, By off setting the rack you require a short and long steering arm, the problem is the length of the steering arm no longer matches the lower control arm so on bump the car will steer it self (different arcs). I cannot see you getting this engineered. However, I am sure people do it.

Just picked up a manual rack with intermediate shaft for $100. Almost gave up and stuck with powersteering.

Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i dont like the chances of getting extractors down drivers side of you dont do starter relocation. im about to start the conversion on my wagon

There supposedly is a upgraded starter from the states that is smaller and may fit depending on the extractors. I just used the starter relocation kit for less headaches.

Can anyone tell me what are my options with the starter relocation kit & what the costs are ? Im planning to run a turbo 350 trans , is there anything i should look at for?

Maybe pm CLNGMH as he done a turbo ls1 in a vl. from my understanding doing a turbo version gives you more room and you can build around the starter motor and powersteering..... i think....

A work in progress.. getting custom pipes and powerglide fitted up as we speak. Custom pipes are expensive but a guarenteed to fit. Love to go turbo but cant legally get it engineered in vic Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

im using ve l98 cast exhaust manifolds, can also use the hsv ones or try and find vy hsv extractors, all need minor work to make it fit, 2.5" is a squeeze past the rack and rail but hey, i aint paying nearly 1k for pipes on a stock motor... starter relocation kits are worth it, a mate of mine just bought one, nice setup but i can see that $650 going to better things ---------- Post added 28-03-12 at 16:39 ---------- Quote: Originally Posted by GMHVN [View Post] A work in progress.. getting custom pipes and powerglide fitted up as we speak. Cages are not illegal if done right and engineered in vic. Going na first with a cam and some other work see how it goes then bring on the tubs and turbo
