installed the master cylinder just before its looking good. spoke to low volume certifier today and told him what i had done with the wastegate and he was fine with it he said some workshops talk about measurements but he said he doesnt know where people get this from as theres no measurements in the regulations

hey guys finally finished the exhaust system today. heres the pic of the wastegate pipeing hopefully you can see it as it was taken while the car was on the ground as i couldnt be bovered jacking it back up.also heres another pic from the front. the plan at the moment is to get my hands on the new ecu and wire that all up and get it running aswell as sorting out the radiator and a few other things and the new brakes aswell as the fuel system in the boot. the next step will be to get the diff and gearbox and wheels sorted as soon as possible Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Wow its coming along nicely Hayden, good work. I'm planning on running a surge tank and Bosch 044 pump in the boot, I'm having problems with it tho. to do that It needs to be certified, and I've spoken to 2 certifiers and they both said the same thing: the whole of the boot space needs to be fully sealed off from the cabin. now if you pull all the back seats out and the 1/4 window trim, parcel tray, and any boot trims, you'll seed there's tons of holes right along it, and some on the sides as well, between the 1/4 windows and the back seat. So I took it to a family friend to have a look at (he's a recently retired engineer, been in the business for his whole life), and he took a look at it and said trying to weld all those holes up is a crazy idea. the holes on the sides you won't be able to get to, the whole panel along the back is just tack welded so you'd need to go along the whole thing again. And he said if you do that it'll just buckle. and also, there still has to be holes for the rear seatbelts (I will still be using them). so then its still not guna be completly sealed. The only way I could think to get around this would be to weld some sort of cover around the seatbelt retractors, and then over all the holes so everything's covered up. way too much work for what its worth in my opinion. He also made another good point, if there is any sort of fuel leak in the boot, the whole boot will be full of gas, so if a spark flys out of somewhere (for example if someone hits you in the back and your tail-light wiring short's.... it won't be pretty. But the thing I'm confused about - I've been told to seal the boot off completely, so I purposely went on TM to try and find cars with in-boot surge tanks - and that are fully certified - and I've found a few - one was even an old RX7 - a coupe with nothing between the boot and the cabin! Anyway, I don't really care too much. My friend drew up a design, basically its a steel tank which my surge tank and the 044 will sit nicely into. It will be bolted to my towbar rails inside the boot. with a big 50mm hole at the front where we'll put a piece of pvc pipe in, then push it thru a hole in that hump over the diff, and all the fuel hoses will run thru that pvc pipe. (the pipe will be siliconed so thats its completely sealed. the tank which it all sits in will have a removable lid which will be fully sealed. So I'm guna take that design to a certifier asap, and if he's sweet with it i will get him to sign it off in writing (as proof for when I eventually get the whole car certified), and then I'll get that box made up. So let me know how you get on, i'd be intrested to know what your certifier says. ps what the name of your certifier? the 2 i've spoken to are Lance Walsh (Freelance Automotive in Henderson), and Hamish Munro (McWaltons garage in Onehunga). the certifier ive been speaking to is clint field from M.S.Certification he did my old car. i havent looked into the regulations yet about the fuel system but im looking at getting a tank made up for in the boot with surge tank. was thinking of using alloy sheets and making two panels up one to cover the parcel tray and one for the rear fire wall . they would be all bolted in and sealed with seem sealer around the outside.not sure about the seatbelts though. the rear seat should still be able to go back in aswell.but as i said before i havent looked into this yet so not sure what the regulations are and whether this would meet the regulations. been working on the car today i got the window wipers and mechanism back in and been doing a bit of wiring that i hadnt finished. dropped the radiator off to get all sorted should have it back tomorrow and also brought the electric fan which is all wired up just waiting to fit the radiator. not to much stuff left on the to do list now cant wait to hear what it sounds like.

Oh and for those of you who'd like to know, I got took the design drawing of my previously mentioned box to one of the cert guys today, and he said it's all good. As long as any fuel system stuff is completely sealed off somehow from the rest of the cabin, it should be fine. So I'll be going ahead with that design.
