There would be air but no fuel in the cylinder, you can't melt a piston without any fuel in there...

O2 censer seeing ALOT of air comming through the zoost and pumps more fuel into all pistons to make up for it, Glazing the bore and melting pistions. he didnt say what pistion was melted.. But thats how i see it.

Leaving the car in reverse whilst on a uphill Driveway... Woking under the steering wheel trying to fix the alarm... Forgot it was in gear, started the car, car rolled down hill while draging me under the car/drivers Door, and hit into my mums parked car... nearly Died... Still recovering.. Jimbo

was reversed up the ramps, drove off and the right hand ramp came with me. got out to look, and the bumper was hanging. not happy Quote: Originally Posted by EVLJET1 dunno how it melted the piston that had no fuel going to it but it put a nice hole in the piston just near the spark plug but it was piston 4 that melted and same piston had no fuel going to it also maybe some mechanic can explain how that happens all i can think of is the piston got verry hot Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Worst thing i have done is put a $40 non venting catch can on my vlt, which caused presurising in the crank case blowing out the rear main seal, lack of oil screwed the bearings but not before it recked the oil seals in the turbo had to spend $6500 on a rebuild including new turbo, farkn farken

ok, mine wasnt working on a car, on monday i had been out all day riding with my mates, anyways, we came back, loaded the bikes on the trailer (for some reason this time we had the trailer off the car when loading the bikes on ) and anyway, when we went to put the trailer on the towball of the car, it was dark and the trailer was just sitting there ontop of the towball, not actually on properly and since id put it on, i was standing right next to the trailer, and my mate knocked it, it fell off the towball and smashed my toe up... fcuk it hurts... still waitin for the nail to fall off..... Thats pretty scary, my son jumped out of my rear seat too quick one day and I scraped his foot as the car was still moving, he just pulled his foot out as I was also coming to full stop., <guh> You feeling better, no broken bones or other cosmetic changes need then ? ps: Leave your your new fuserail in your will, i'm running out Quote: Originally Posted by EVLJET1 dunno how it melted the piston that had no fuel going to it but it put a nice hole in the piston just near the spark plug but it was piston 4 that melted and same piston had no fuel going to it also maybe some mechanic can explain how that happens Heres one scenario:- No fuel going into piston 4, so when engine warms up the ECU detects too much O2 in exhaust and ramps up fuel to make it run richer. But because the injection cycle is twice the rate at which the inlet valves open then half the time all cylinders would have had fuel spray in front of closed inlet values, this forms a cloud of mist and vapour which oscillates as the flow is not one directional. ie. Cyl 4 can scavenge some of the fuel spray from adjacent cylinders by reverse pulsed flow. This wouldnt happen so on boost but would be pretty major source of fuel for Cyl 4 just below and up to atmos pressure, this would also make adjacent cylinders run leaner too. Thing is the manifold is not that well balanced a flow medium as depending on what revs the engine runs there are various standing wave patterns of pulsed flow. Its well known that if the AFM is too close to the common neck of the inlet manifold that it will read wrong as there are many reverse air pulses, this is one reason that MAP sensing is more popular for power with MAF for emissions. So thats the mechanism for the cyl with injector unplugged to get some fuel, however I think its really unlucky it was enough to still run lean, in my opinion, I would have thought still not enough to burn reliably and produce enough heat unless the plug was also a bit loose allowing a blast of air onto the piston crown and acting as a blowtorch - but then again would need a bit of extra fuel for that to happen. Given the ECU cant keep ramping up fuel as there is an upper limit even if reading a lot of O2 suggests to me something else was probably also wrong... ^apart from the fact that the ecu ignores the o2 sensor when under power. last night i was attempting a road tune on a mates car (bmw 525i) we'd just run the boost up from 12 to 16psi, was just checking the upper parts of the fuel map, we must have blown a head gasket as it very wuickly blew a large amount of water out of the radiator, i dont think we realised in time, well it developed a bit of a miss and no longer goes. needless to say the engine is comeing out. not looking formward to lifting the head off to look inside. really wish we had of noticed the rising emgine temp earlier.

foolish but accidental was doing a headgasket on a r31 a while back when tightening the head bolts the little allan key bit from the torque wrench fell into the oil gallery. there was dead silence for about 10 minz until my stupid mate goes it'll sh i t it out, didnt start it ever sold it to the wreckers for $200 i wonder if they ever started it...

stupidest thing i ever done, on a MX6 turbo, put a t4 on it, and had to remove air con, which was the tensioner for the power steer belt aswell, so i use a belt that i had to force on and fit perfectly with no tensioner, thrashed it for 2 days then slowly driving to my GFs house dies, try to strat it, and winds over at lightning spped, so im just around the corner, stick it in first and use the starter ti drive into the driveway, find out after a few seconds of investigating, whoops, when i put the belt on with no tensioner, i had to undo the harmonic balancer to get some slack, and i never tightend it, needless to say, it snapped the snout off the crank, so i was up fpr a new crank bearings and a few other thing, took me 3 months to fix, Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Worst thing you have done E-Z would have been the RB30 convert in the skyline, or the VL gearbox swop, or the crank snap, or that.. Wait.. STOP WORKING ON CARS!

Was pretty Farken Scary ! but funny none the less! I was stuck in the boot with the Fraken Soldering iron!! lol, dont worry, your not alone, i locked myself in my boot too.... i had my phone though damn SS Spoilers..... need stronger boot springs... if you can even get them that is :| Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
