Quick q's for those who've been here done that. Is the wiring harness interchangable between the turbo and NA? I know the turbo's got the detonation sensor, but that's the only difference right? I think my harness is rooted (quite a few suspect lookin wires along the way) and have a good condition NA one that I want to swap in to eliminate it as a source of the probs.

i'm going to be goin along this path in a few months time. gonna get the turbo parts and then find me a decent looking N/A VL. i wanna try and do a budget yet reliable build. my aim is about $1500-2000 incl. car purchase should be interesting. the only thing holdiing me back at the moment is that i am renting while my house gets built, but once its all done i'll be starting work. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

How long will it last, what are its weak points ect .. your advice much appriciated Daniel Hey, i was just wondering whats the difference with an n/a vl fuel pump & a turbo one? lol Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I'm guessing that later model vl n/a's(87-88) all have series 2 blocks? or is it the other way around?

Such a minor difference between series 1 and series 2 blocks, just get a drill and tap the holes, maybe we need an article/wiki entry for that...

yes u can use n/a block if its s2 it will already have the holes drilled in the block for oil/water lines and drain. 3 holes that will be plugged up on passenger side of the block if its s2, if its s1 they wont be there simple... its been covered 500 times do a search ffs.

yes u can use ur n/a block most do! series 1 u have to drill the water & oil holes in the side of the block, where the series 2 block already has them already done standard. u bet me to it SLY.747 lol SLEEPRVLT is selling a turbo block $200 well worth get to rebuilt a motor! have a look

few people here have modded the n/a block with a couple of holes, kept the high comp pistons and ran 6 to 7 psi without an IC, np.

hey guys in the new street commodores magazine issue 132 there is a small part in it in the questions on page 109 about a VL converted to turbo. if you read this it says that you will need: a T3 turbo from a RB30ET VL Turbo exhaust manifold VL turbo injectors VL Turbo Intake Front Pipe Intercooler Transmission Cooler It also says that you do not need to replace the ECU, Intake Manifold, Fuel Reg and Fuel Pump. It says not to run more than 9-10 PSI and you can get everything you need for around $1500. I hope this helps you guys it helped me a lot and because this info comes from the Street Commodores people im sure it is suitable. I am planning to do this in the future now because I needed to make sure I was doing it right. Hope this helps you guys out. Cheers

You do need the turbo ecu to run the injectors correctly, you dont need turbo intake manifolds the n/a ones flow better anyway. One person on here has theres going with little more than... dump pipe, turbo, turbo lines, exhaust, and cross over pipe. Not really a good idea though, at least get an intercooler, vlt management + injectors

When I gather up the money to sort some of these parts out, I'm going to want to use a decompression plate to be on the safe side, are they easily available in New Zealand, and what is the cost like for them?
