Has anyone ever come across a problem with their car door having to be pulled upwards with reasonable force to get it to open. Possibly something to do with the hinges being worn ??
Could be hinges, but could also be the lock mechanism itself. Is that all lubed up and moving freely? You could also check the door striker (silver thing on the door pillars) maybe this has moved up or down. Could even be part of the internal mechanism not workin properly. The hinge pins are extremely hard, and unless they were broken, I doubt it would be them. There is also no adjustment on the hinges. Try opening the door, then seeing if it moves in any direction it shouldn't.
Seems to be something wrong with the hinges. With door open, you can lift it up and down a fraction from the outside handle end like it feels a little loose, any way to pack the hinges or stop the movement ?
Doubt it will fix it, but worth a try...The pins in the hinges should have a small black cap at the top and bottom.
Remove the top one and shove a needle nose grease gun down there and pump it up with new grease until it comes out the middle of the hinge. You'll probably get all of the old grease coming out which may help to.
If you can physically move your door up and down while its open as you said then Id say you need a pin kit for the hinges...Not a nice job, but not alot else to do.
You might have a broken hinge pin. I did on one of my doors. Removing the hinge pins can be one of the worst jobs you will ever have to do, so only attempt it if it really needs doing!
Get a pin removel tool.I did then gave it to my panel better,Easy peazy you just wind them out and then the new one back in.Or if you are freindly with a panel beater he may have one.
Cheers Marty
ps don't wack them out
The tool I used looked like this:
I absolutely destroyed it removing my doors!
Marty: do you mean a tool like this one?
I hadn't seen one like that til I googled it just then - could have been handy! Would be pretty tight removing the bottom pin though - not much room there!
