Hey guys, has been a while since I've been on here & also a while since I've had time to touch the VL or even go for a drive.
As we all know, life can get the better of us & other priorities take over, however, the dust seems to be settling & i believe ill have time to get it back on the road & enjoy it.
Although i don't get time to drive it much, i used to start it one a week or so & let it run for a while. However, the last 2 years i haven't had the chance (and kind of avoided "opening another can of worms" in case something was wrong).
The Motor is pretty refresh in regards to KM's, probably 5k-10k. Was a full rebuild, so want to make sure i make an attempt to do right by the motor after neglecting. Is there a good chance ive damaged my engine by leaving it for so long? or not likely?
Just wondering what advice people would give for one starting a car that's been torment for a few years. Below is a list of some basics i can think of, let me know if you have any other suggestions.
Flush Fuel Tank - Any easy methods? or drop the tank & dispose of content? flush with clean fuel etc?
Remove fuel pump fuse to let oil pump push oil around the block while the motor turns
Flush the oil prior to first start?
Flush all fluids? or not really necessary? (was always clean fluids before hand)
Use a Battery Charger to deep cycle "recondition" the battery?
Also....what is the shelf life of Motor Oil? I 2 bottles of Castrol edge, probably 3-4 years old, would they still be good? Ones been opened a few years ago, the other is unopened. Let me know your suggestions please [Image in original archive]
If anyone knows of a good thread (tried looking but no luck) or any suggestions for the above questions, please let me know [Image in original archive]

That's a pretty good list, I recently did this myself after about 3years off the road, my fuel tank had rusted on the inside at the top and intank pump crapped it self (ended up finding another tank and got new pump). The coolant had some sort of fungus or something growing in the overflow bottle lol and the coolant in the radiator looked like muddy water rather than nice green coolant, dunno why that happened from just sitting there but it did. I got my rad cleaned out (after i started it up for first time) and it was 40% blocked with gunk. I also turned it over by hand first and then with fuel pump fuse out, and it fired up good after that.
After getting it started i did a brake conversion so changed all the brake fluid, so probs a good idea to change that before going too far, and obviously check everything else is ok before driving too

in the middle of doin this meself 2 years isnt so bad we worked out mine has been sitting for just on 7 years lol
one important thing with the tank is to make sure the rubber hoses inside are still usable and not turned to goo

Are the lines inside the tank, breather lines? Or they actually the internal fuel pump lines?
I changed all breather hoses & the internal fuel pump about 5 years ago. But will check when i remove the tank on the condition of all the internals! Originally i was just going to drain & flush etc, but after seeing the reply above & rust inside, i am a bit concerned.
Don't even want to imagine what a Long Range Drop Tank costs these days....
