Alternator problems

The plug going to my alternator has one wire chopped ? Does it only need the one wire ?

as far as i'am aware you need two, big red one from you'r battery and then a smaller black one a think, and some have a plug aswell, cheers jack.

Which wire is chopped? Have you recently had problems or has it always been like that?
