Hey,
Been floating around for quite a while and finally decided to take the leap and got myself a VL with series 2 motor. Now wanting to turbo the motor all the options I have read are starting to fry my brain.
There are excellent eBay turbos manifolds etc that will get me over the line. However I can purchase vlt exhaust manifold, down pipe, injectors, turbo for $700 would this be better to stick with the stock than buying eBay turbo, manifold etc?
I'm looking to get about 250rwkw with the setup. Already have a turbo diff and mx7 box so I think I'm set there.

Thanks guys!
I just got off the phone to a guy who can machine and hone, change pistons and rings, bearings and polish crank. Charging $700 in Melbourne if I supply the parts. Whereas another rebuilding shop said $2400 for basically same thing but blue printing the motor. I've decided to now go for about 320rwkw if I do the motor. $700 guy should be sufficient with forged Pistons ?

If 250rwkw is your goal then the only factory part you can use is the exhaust manifold. Turbo, dump, computer and injectors all no use I'm afraid.

Melbv no offence but how old are you? Owned a Vlt before? Joe is spot on!

Lol hi flowing the turbo, cooler, computer, injectors, pump etc will be done obviously

The T3 highflowed will only get you around 200rwkw at 14psi, maybe 220rwkw with injectors, ECU etc
If you want 250rwkw you will need something a bit bigger
Cooler is a must either way if you want that kind of power
Choose a turbo to suit your power goals, then pick whether you want low or high mount, the biggest expense will be the manifold and turbo if you want good stuff
You can use the standard manifold if you want low mount setup which will be a lot better than running an eBay one, those stainless manifolds are junk
Having said that it depends what you want out of the car, I am running an eBay turbo on one of mine because I very rarely drive it so I don't need it to be reliable and I couldn't care less if the turbo ****s itself

Then if you have money left over, go a computer upgrade (nistune or aftermarket) and some injectors and a 044. Then the next move would be a gt35 turbo.
I wouldn't worry about aiming for power figures.

15-07-16, 12:13 GMT+10#11 No it wasn't KLS it was a T04e from JDM Part Shop on eBay, honestly it looks like a fairly good bit of kit, my only regret was I went with an internal wastegate, which required a bit of custom mounting to get to fit low mount, an external wastegate would have been a much better option in hindsight

That's a fair point as mine was a good running setup, rebuilt with stronger internals, not a hardcore power build just better than stock...
I wasn't chasing power figures, my original turbo (T3 highflow) was shagged and blowing smoke, so my options were rebuild it myself (probably stuff it), rebuild professionally (not worth the money), big name brand turbo (very expensive and overkill for my application)
In a perfect world we would all use the best and spare no expense in every aspect but sometimes you have to make concessions, I have 7 cars so I can't throw ten thousand at each one or else I wouldn't be able to pay my mortgage and I would never get my money back
I think for a mild street setup without running huge boost an eBay turbo will hold up just fine, remember this guy is running N/A internals with probably 200,000klms
Other option for turbo is look for a second hand brand name but that in itself is a risky business, every 2nd hand turbo has "only 2 dyno runs, almost new", in reality they could have seen 35psi for 50,000 klms

15-07-16, 18:11 GMT+10#12 On a budget. Nistune the na computer,get a z32 afm and some gtr injectors/044 pump
Turbo try hypergear
If this is your first build that will keep you busy for a while ..
Although i really recommend building skylines for cheap performance..
vl's cost a bomb..really to build one half decent you need a spare 20-30 grand..lol
Cheers
