hi all
is there any difference from standard vl calais front brakes and vl calais turbo front brakes?
would they be a good upgrade from standard brakes if there is a difference?

I believe the turbo ones are slightly larger and the calipers are finned to help with the heat.
the master cylinder is also larger on the turbo models.

what genie said is correct
std calais are pretty pitiful.
"turbo" brakes can be obtrained from any vr vs and are identified by fins on the caliper.
they do make a difference.
Dad runs standard vlt discs all around a vt master and booster and new lines and the brakes can be applied with your little toe its a great cheap factory upgrade.

Just adding to what the guys above said
Master cylinder on turbo and V8 is 1", non-turbo 6 is 15/16"
The discs are larger diameter 290mm on turbo and V8, 270mm standard.
The finned calipers were used up until VS on V8 models excluding some HSVs Group A etc.
They bolt straight up and are pretty good unless you have heaps of HP.
I found them to be good enough with a mild engine setup.
If you are chasing heaps of power I would do the VT conversion - do a search heaps of guides on how to do it.

ive seen the finned calipers on standard vr vs however ive seen the smooth style still on vn 6 bangers. so im not sure when they changed over and what the terms were but theyre more readily available than just v8 models.

Yeah sorry you are right there mate
VL I6 = 270mm smooth callipers
VL Turbo I6/V8 = 289mm finned callipers
VN/VP V6 = 270mm smooth callipers
VN/VP V8 = 289mm finned callipers
VN Group A = 330mm twin pot callipers
VP Series II V6 = 289mm smooth callipers
VR/VS V6/V8 = 290mm finned callipers
VR/VS HSV = 330mm twin pot callipers
*VR onwards had ABS but made no difference to the callipers themselves
*VR onwards had a floating rotor that sat on the hub as opposed to the VB-VP rotors having the wheel bearing as part of the rotor
