Hi all,
I remember back in the early 2000's there was a common theme that you could not exceed 2" from the largest size wheel offered on a particular car.
So in VL's case would be 16" (walky) + 2" = 18"
I wouldnt mind a set of 20" MC's lol, but have looked over the vicroads reg PDF's and cant really find a clear cut line, and there is a bit of misinformation out there about overall size and this apparently "old" 2" rule.
Obviously, i would want to get a tyre to make the overall diameter tha same for speedo reasons, but not sure what everyones thoughts are on all of this?
Would be great if anyone could pipe up and get this cleared up.
Thanks.

2 inch rule is a load of crap.
It's no more than 1 inch wider than the largest wheel fitted to that body
No more than 1 inch narrower than the smallest fitted to that body
No more than 10 per cent change in rolling diameter to the largest fitted to that body (larger)
No more than 10 per cent change in rolling diameter to the smallest fitted to that body (smaller)
It will one down to tyre profile as to what you can legally run.
And load rating needs to be maintained.
It's all on VicRoads site somewhere I always had a copy in my car and a tire spec sheet on the tires I was running and never had issues with wheel sizes

awesome, yea thats what i was after... i messaged MC on FB and i got the feeling they didnt want to incriminate themselves, i was told basically to check myself...
It makes sense that if you compensate with a smaller profile tyre, it shouldnt make a difference but i also know how cops are....

It's bullsh!t. Back a few years ago it was only allowed 2 inches greater than standard. Now they are saying it's only 15mm. Correct me if I'm wrong. But it sucks if you have already had these types of rims for years & then they change it. Do they think we are made of money & can change things as they change the laws. pfft.

i dunno, its just a weird grey area... I still cant find anything on vicroads that says in black and white, Its kinda muddied I know 18's would be a better ride and all that, but i rarely drive my VL and the extra little bit of body height a taller rim would have would benefit my no holes cooler piping just get up enough to not be a "car is too low" issue.
Has anyone here been done over by having too big wheels?

the 15mm is for being above the overall rolling diameter of the tyre and u get 25mm for each rim in width and from memory it combines to increase wheel track by no more than 55mm combined
this is why there are lower profile tyres that combine to keep ur new larger rims as close to the original rolling diameter as possible

Search for #guide to modifications for motor vehicles# on VicRoads website, it's section 13.3.2
