If everything is bolted on tight then that is normal. Depending on the position of the cam the lobes will be holding a valve or several valves partially or fully open. Loosen off the rocker shafts and you will see the valves will be all closed. ---------- Post added 05-01-16 at 16:42 ---------- Set you timing roughly so cam and crank position are both roughly TDC so you don't torque the head up and have a valve touch a piston. ---------- Post added 05-01-16 at 16:42 ---------- you should only tighten up the valve gear once the head is on and timing belt is fitted

you most likely have to remove the rockers to install the head bolts anyway. dowel on cam sprocket should be at top and turn crank until number 1 piston is at the top of the cylinder. probably best to buy a gregory's manual. it gives you the whole processs.

the cams dot marker should be close to pointing straight up and the crank should have the number one piston at TDC by aligning the crank pulley dot to the marking on the oil pump housing. Unbolt valve rockers and leave spark plugs out till belt is set and tensioned correctly. 1. bolt up head, torque to specs. 2. install timing belt with 53 steps between the crank dot and cam dot. 3. set up tensioner on spring and by feel usually add more tension as spring isn't often good enough. get mechanic to check it. 4. turn motor over by 27mm socket with ratchet handle 4 times. 5. check belt tension and ensure the belt has 53 steps between crank and cam pulley dots. if not 53 go back to step 2. yeah Gregory's.... there's plenty of how too's on setting up the dizzy so have a google search and follow one as it's the best time to get the dizzy installed while engine is at TDC as it will also be on compression stroke when dots are back in the starting positions after 4 turns during setup.
