Just wondering if anybody can give me some idea of how to eliminate the play in the exterior door handles. One grabs great as soon as you lift it, but the other 3 there is heaps of slack. Cheers

Inside the door there is the rod that runs from the handle to the latch, I'm REASONABLY sure on the other end is a little white bush that goes into the latch and it SHOULD be able to be adjusted... (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Take off the door trim and you will see the mechanics of the mechanism, have a watch and play around

Anyone got any pictures of inside of the door?

I swapped mine years ago for the same problem, as far as I remember the play was in the handle itself as it is sprung and they are riveted together so I didn't pull them apart, I just bought another set and used the best ones

My drivers door handle wouldn't budge all the way to unlock the door. Sprayed WD-40 on all inside connections and door handle and door kinges moves heaps better like a new car.

i oiled everything and added more kink to the rod between handle and latch creating a tighter door handle. can be done quite easily. make sure you have the proper door winder removal tool.

Play as in the spring still holds them down but there is just heaps of slack before the pop the door open?
If that's the case the lifter rod needs adjusting down. You'll have to remove the handle and then you can see the rod is screwed into a bush down a the bottom pivot. Screw the rod into the bush further to make the handle activate the opening mechanism earlier.
It's due to wear in all the mechanisms etc over time. As posted up above a kinda ghetto way to fix it is to add more bend into the rod (it's not straight as it is). Ghetto...but you don't have to take the door handle off.
*Edit just noticed date of first post lol.

The easiest way to fix this by far ( I did it to my front driver door yesterday) is to get a pair of plyers and add a little kink to the cable. Don't bother trying to unhook the door handle from the cable and screw it down as its agonisingly painful to get it off and it's in an awkward position. Mine works like new now. Save yourself the stress..
