Hey guys! currently in the process of building just a mild 15 psi motor for my VLCT but question. im stuck on the fuel setup... as i do NOT want to run a surge tank.. (unless anyone knows where i can get a under car one). My mate is telling me to run 2x044 external pumps and a low pressure high volume intank pump.. does this sound right to you guys? sorry about posting it here wasnt sure were else to do so,, TYIA.

Ariel at Custom Plenum Creations still does the undercar surge tanks i believe.

2 x 044s is over kill.. like 1000hp at the tyres kind of overkill. Don't listen to your mates would be my first bit of advice. Quite a few companies make undercar surge tanks, CPC Plenums, Brightline Fab and JD. For 15psi.. I would look a retrofitting a late model Walbro into the factory swirl pot. You won't be able to let the car get low on fuel like you could with a surge tank but it just means you take it easy until you fill up.

most of the guys who supply rb30 inlet manifolds do undercar surge tanks. I know Ariel and JD Customs do. probably others aswell.

You can get a better in-tank pump as mentioned above and mount a single 044 in the factory bracket, which will be fine for your application The factory lines will probably still be a little undersized so no point having an extra pump

My in-tank crapped itself, and i upgraded to a walbro 255 intank. I then wasnt sure if leaving the factory external would be a bit of a bottleneck (although my lines were still factory, so prob no real gain). So i removed the external and only running an in-tank, and like Duke says, if im 1/3or less on fuel, at high rpm load, it will starve of fuel, so i make sure i consider that. I really should get around to mounting an external again, either the factory one or an 044.

But wouldn't the 2nd pump outside the tank hold enough fuel to act in a way like a tiny surge tank/pump? for those occasional squirts ?

Not really.
