Vl v8

I have just bought a VL V8 it's all stock at 100km/h it sits on 2800revs it this correct it has 15 inch rims and a three speed auto , it seems a bit high to me does anyone know if this is correct

Depending on the tire size (factory 205/65/15) that is about correct..... The transmission doesn't have overdrive, so top gear is 1:1 bringing the rpm up. If you want to keep it looking stock but bring the rpm down, the easiest thing to do is change the diff ratio to something like a 2.77 (falcon gear) from the 3.08 it has now. Done this in my car and it came down between 3-400 rpm at 100kmh... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Our wagon sits appox 2600rpm at a hundy.Check if rev counter is correct.Dan how does she perform thru the gears like now? Cheers Marty

I can hardly tell the difference from before...Typical Trimatic is in top gear by about 35-40kmh if your going easy on the gas. If your only using the vehicle as a cruiser it's the way to go Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Dan ours will not go into top until at lest 60ks.Do you have to change axles when you did the diff? Cheers Marty

I had mine changed through a diff specialist here in Auckland and I was able to keep the original axles (28 spline). He also fitted an LSD head which from memory was from a later model Commodore (can't remember which)....
