i know e85 has been coverd heaps but can someone please explain why when setting up for e85 do u have to have these things surge tank fuel cell why cant you just run e85 straight from the fuel tank without a fuel cell and surge tank...wouldnt this make it easier and cheaper. can someone please explain it to me properly...preferably guys that use e85 thanks marc

You don't have to do anything.. However you do need to design your fuel system around the requirements of your car. E85 will generally turn 25 year old fuel systems inside and out.. most people don't want the hassle and replace what they can to eliminate future problems. So what are you going to do with your car?

A surge tank and fuel cell are usually seen on track related cars. The only difference is the fuel cell is E85 safe meaning it won't start to break down with ethanol. A surge tank is not needed unless you are like I said at the race track. A surge tank is needed when high g forces are present like in a corner or a launch where the fuel can slosh in the tank and cause the fuel to surge as it washes past the fuel pump intake.

i dont know much bout e85 just the basics...so i was thinking bout running it straight from the fuel tank...replace external standard pump with a 044 or better, replace my fuel lines with braided or teflon, upgrade fuel regulator and bigger injectors-1000cc? is this acceptable or do i need more things?? the car is my daily hence why i thought of just running from fuel tank, i dont race, drift etc

Im guessing the vl fuel tank based on the fact its probally similiar to a Vb old carby **** wasn't really designed with efi in mind, and thats why it has a low pressure/highpressure pump setup. I actually have no idea and could be talking out my arse, but i asked myself this same question the other day...and it makes sense it my head i just bought a redstar undercar surge instead.. cheers darren

044s are not technically alky capable pump.. they are generally considered a tough pump but will fail eventually using alcohol based fuels. If it is just a daily, why dont you put a internal high pressure pump in the tank like the E85 compatible Walbro, piss off the external pump, replace the 25 year old rubber lines with new rubber lines that are alky compatible, use the factory steel lines up to the front of the car and do what you need up their depending on your setup. Keep it simple, it isn't a Supercar or a door slammer. You could do it all for under $500 depending on whats in the engine bay.
