Oh so ive installed a cam as stated above and i know you have to dial it im properly but i have not done so as yet as i do t have the tools.
Ok so the problem is the car is a slug but from 3500 rpm onwards its real torquey nd i can power slide it threw all 5 gears.
As funny as is mag be i cant drive it everyday like this so is it just how i installed the cam or do i need an aftermarket ecu or both??

i ran a 818c/1147 in mine with a stock turbo ecu and it was fine. ran a little rich.
mate of mine has a 818b in his turbo. stock ecu and no problems whats so ever

i didnt dial mine in. just lined all the timing mark up and set the timing to 15deg ( factory turbo). kept the revs up for 15 mins. and thats it. dont know if you dial in a regrind cam

Did exactly the same. No dramas at all. it was a bit of pig for a NA. But pulled nicely up top. If your really not happy with it how it is then get a adjustable cam gear and move the power down the rev range to suit the NA better.

Cams with higher lift & more overlap sometimes need more ignition advance in the lower rev range and less up top.
an easy test would be to set it up with say 5-10 degs more advance but just be careful not to rev it up past 3500 during testing or it may start knocking.
If the throttle response improves to your liking then based on that you would know what it needs to operate properly.
The next step is get the ECU reprogrammed.

i have a regrind cam with just a bit more lift than factory turbo-is still n/a at moment.
i had machine shop grind out cam gear holes to suit cam timing.
i got a reprogrammable chip for ecu-similar to what they do to twincam ecu. has 1000 reflashes on it.
this improved afrs and efficiency and can support bigger afm, fmic, boost limits-if i had knock sensor.
this works pretty well for what it is on my n/a
110rwkw and 360nm t

Since my work fits in to the "they do" category I must ask these questions.
Does this reprogrammable chip in your ECU have a way of switching between the different tunes for the bigger AFM's? if so, do you know 'exactly' what AFM's it will support?

this was a quick fix for my cheap ebay chip that was putting my afrs at dangerous levels.
i think this chip is also a quick fix but has more slightly more tunability.
i would imagine ( as im no expert ) the chip would be tuned as a new afm is installed. i.e more air in = programme more fuel in through tuners software.?
i was told it would support a z32 afm.

22-01-14, 22:32 GMT+10#10 if its able to be tuned then it could be a Nistune board if not, you may have been led astray.
For your ECU to support more than one MAF it would need to have some form of circuit board installed in it that can be reprogrammed or it would have a dual or quad e-tune board in it that supports multiple (tunes) or calibration files.
if you really want to know, take a photo of the inside and I'll confirm for you.
If its only a chip inside then to determine what MAF it supports, I'd need the ECU here to read the binary code from the chip.

23-01-14, 15:40 GMT+10#11 So if i wanted to move the power more lower in the revs i need to turn the cam a few teeth anti clockwise?

i enquired about the comparison to a nistune board and this chip as the nistune was the way i was going to go.
i was told that it was the same as a nistune BUT as it was only a chip installed i think you are right what you are saying.
i am interested to find out more so will call my tuner and get some more specific info.
and will post up what i find out

yes, but only one tooth would be sufficient.
48-cam/24-crank is the pulley ratio on these so 360/48/2=3.75 crank degs which is a huge change by just one notch.
With 53 notches/steps from dot to dot you would only move one to 54.
Advancing the cam will give it more bottom end with a reduction in top end breathing/HP.
The Head gasket, deck height and also how much has machined from the head all
have some influence.
To get correct cam timing in that case, an adjustable gear is needed.
Cam timing can be out by as much as 1.5 deg depending on how much was added or taken off.

27-01-14, 20:13 GMT+10#14 I'm running wolf 3d v4
818b cam
Injectors and all the other ****
Car runs well
But it does back fire when flat changing through gear or when you rev it up around the 5000 rmp mark and stomp on and off the throttle . Is this due to timing being out or just excess fuel not being burnt and ten igniting in turbo/exhaust ??

so my tuner says that this is a reprogrammable chip. does not have extra circut board for boost control. but is able to be programmed for larger injectors and afm .
he has made this reprogrammable chip himself.
nothing more specific sorry.
if interested i can pm you his details for more indepth analysis.
cheers
