I have a ECU I obtained with my current VL turbo. The sticker I. The ECU sticker states the following: VL turbo Manual Stage 3 chip 95-98 Octane VL turbo injectors VL turbo spark plugs Iv seen these ****ty stage 1-2-3 chips advertised as a do it your self add on . Being that is a stage 3 am I able to remove the chip simply with a soldering iron with out effecting the ECU default turbo/manual settings? Any help would be appreciated as I don't want to pass the problem but don't want to waist a descent ECU Will pull it apart and check it out.

You need to post a decent photo of the circuit board.

The board is for an N/A pictured on the left. Here: http://users.ncable.net.au/~landsbor...%20diagram.jpg (http://users.ncable.net.au/~landsborough/other/ecu/ecu%20diagram.jpg) ECU Left; The space/chip just above the red circle is the added chip It's a standard (2 peace) stage 3 chip sold on eBay. http://m.ebay.com.au/itm?itemId=270911495456 No additional sister board so no knock sensor gear. So basically an NA chipped ECU Is there any hope for this thing as far as every day use? I don't want to run crap on my car. If stage three means: "advanced the timing and dump fuel into it" Can I convert it to a stock VL turbo ECU? minus the knock sensor..

If stage three means: "advanced the timing and dump fuel into it" Can I convert it to a stock VL turbo ECU? minus the knock sensor.. I have exactly the same ECU with that sticker in my VL. When I turboed my NA in July, I sent my original NA computer away to this guy on ebay... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VL-stage-...em 3f21d28969 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VL-stage-3-RB30-TURBO-ECU-PERFORMANCE-CHIP-TO-CONVERT-N-A-TO-TURBO-/271150385513?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f21d28969)) He rechips it to make it work like a turbo computer with turbo injectors and without knock sensor. My car runs beautifully on 7psi with no cooler. He has got 100% feed back with thousands of transactions so I trusted that he knows what he is doing. He also returns your original chip as proof. By removing that chip you will end up with a NA spec computer that isn't right for running a turbo set up. You can put a standard VL turbo computer in your car, but your timing will be retarded 5 degrees over the whole rev range if it doesn't have a knock sensor fitted. I read that you can put a resistor in place of the sensor to trick the computer but it was cheaper and easier for me to get rechip than get a Turbo computer and muck around with resistors. If your car is a factory turbo I'd be wanting to put a Proper turbo computer back for originality.

Cheers John There is a lot of hear say floating around on the net about this stuff. Personally I would only trust good dyno or a stock computer. there is no telling what maps these stage 3s are running with out proper diagnosis and their most likely on a "safe" or rich tune It is an A8 Lowe and funnily enough it's also running another non standard ECU. The previous owner informed me that he had issues with that computer but then again the previous owner had issues him self. So ill stick with the ECU that's in there atm. still want to play doctor though and pull this thing apart. Is that so that it will Drop your timing by 5 deg if you don't have a Knock sensor? I was under the impression it retarded timing upon detection of detonation and did not effect timing other wise. So the ECU's 3TM and 3TA are built retarded (5 deg) in lough of the knock sensor being added. Hence no expert hence why i ask questions. or is it?
