im repainting a silver calais, most of the paint looks original and all the one colour. im wondering if most astroid silver calais were just one tone or were the bumpers and moulds painted a different silver. i imagine this could have been a factory option, but looking for some input off anyone who owns or knows anything about it. cheers.

2j 013-d That's the asteroid silver paint code, it's the same colour for bars and body. My calais is 1 tone asteroid.

I have a single tone Asteroid car, the colour is the same but differing paint codes for panel and bars. I believe the paint for the bars is more elastic and a better colour match as plastic vs metal the paint looks different.

yeah ok thanks, i think ive seen one before with a lower gold colour. i think after looking at a few photos ill go with the one tone astriod silver, probably one of the best colours suited to a one tone paint job!

Yes the early ones were two tone Asteroid over MX Grey, my old Calais had this combo. I think they went single tone in '87 when they had the biggest change, when the mystical series 2 started. The paint for the plastics will have an additive to allow it to flex with the plastics as they move, rather than crack. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk (http://tapatalk.com/m?id=1)

Yes it would have been. I think the option for two tone was still there as I've been looking at VL's on carsales and there's an '88 model Calais that is Asteroid over MX, unless it was done after purchase by the owner.
