Hey guys just need help on what primer to use on my vl Calais, I'm going to bring the roof and boot down to bare metal and maybe a few other spots but there's still gonna be paint on there just rubbed back, what kind of primer can I spray the whole car in?! And how long can I leav the car in bare metal? The car is getting painted in acrylic paint at home

you will need a etch primer for bare metal. then use a high build primer over the etch. are you using rattle cans. or a spray gun

Car should be primed immediately. Wear latex gloves as the oil in you skin can cause rust on bare metal. If its completely bare metal use etch primer then 2 pack hi fill if going 2 pac or 2 in 1 primer if using acrylic. If you need to do filler repairs don't use etch use epoxy as you can do filler repairs on expoxy, then appropriate primer for the product your using. If it still has paint on it and just has a few sections that are metal the appropriate primer is fine as they do have some etching properties. Use the same brands as what ever top coat your using as they are tested with each other to bond properly don't mix and match brands. Go to a proper paint shop not autobahn etc its cheaper and they actually know what they're talking about most workers are ex painters / beaters and can give you correct advise tips etc ---------- Post added 06-12-13 at 20:08 ---------- I see your in se suburbs go to bodyshop paint supplies on Cheltenham rd dandy they'll help you heaps
